Fred L. Petersen, 74, of Newport, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 27, 2026, at the Crystal Coast Hospice House.
The family will have a private celebration of Fred’s life.
Born on August 30, 1951, in Eureka, California, Fred was the son of the late Kenneth and Emma Petersen. He proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps, where he attained the rank of Sergeant—an accomplishment he carried with quiet pride throughout his life.
Fred deeply valued the time he spent with those he loved. Family was always at the center of his life, and he treasured the bonds he shared with each of them.
Those left to cherish his memory include his loving companion, Eva Spear of the home; his sons, Frederick Petersen and Michael Petersen; his sisters, Irene White, Patricia Thomas, and Mary Bryson; his brother, Joe Petersen; and his half-brothers, Tony Petersen, Martin Petersen, and Kenny Petersen.
In addition to his parents, Fred was preceded in death by his half-sister, Anna Petersen.
