Sylva - Fred Stiles, 91, passed away on Sunday, March 24, 2024 at Skyland Care Center.

Fred was a native and lifelong resident of Jackson County and a son of the late Clarence and Edith Jordan Stiles.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by the mother of his children, Peggy Beasley Stiles; two sisters, Birdell Gates and Ellen Rankin; and one brother, Henry Stiles.  He was a logger for many years and retired from Dayco Corporation with 25+ years of service.  Fred was a member of Locust Field Baptist Church but attended Lovedale Baptist Church.  He was avid deer hunter, fisherman, and NASCAR fan.  Fred especially loved his dogs and cats.

He is survived by his wife of 29 years, Linda Lou Hall Stiles; one son, Donnie Stiles (Lois) of Cullowhee; two daughters, Jenny Holland of Bryson City, and Terry Stiles of Sylva; one sister, Dorothy Harbin of Gastonia; one step-daughter, Traci Franklin of Sylva; and step-granddaughter, Jessica Orr of Clarksville, Tennessee.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, March 29, 2024 in the Chapel of Appalachian Funeral Services with the Reverend Mark Stiles, Reverend Mike Farmer, and Reverend David Powell.  Burial will follow at Fairview Memorial Park.  The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.  Serving as pallbearers will be Rob Sutton, Jim Mincey, Steve Bush, Jim Davis, Dennis Stiles, and Jeremy Stiles.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to one's favorite charity.
