Willimantic - Fred W. Turner, 85, passed away on February 6, 2026, in Augusta, Maine. He was born on November 28, 1940, the son of Clarence and Vivian (Stanchfield) Turner in Dover-Foxcroft, Maine.

Fred graduated from Monson Academy in 1959 and attended both the Maine Central Institute and the Maritime Forestry Ranger School. In 1962, he began a lifelong career in logging. He worked for his father, and then started his own business in 1972 as an independent woods contractor, where he worked for 27 years. He then worked for the E D Bessey & Son Log Yard until his retirement. In his retirement, Fred served as the Fire Warden and Road Commissioner for Willimantic for many years.

Fred was an avid reader, hunter, and outdoorsman. He loved duck hunting with friends and family and enjoyed time spent at the family camp on Greenwood Pond.

He is survived by his wife, Charyl "Prudy" Turner; his daughters and sons-in-law, Angela and Kevin Howe, and Amy and Steve Cain; and brother and sister-in-law, Brian and Cindy Turner. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Neil Turner.

A memorial service will be held 10 A.M. Thursday, February 19, 2026, at the Lary Funeral Home, Dover-Foxcroft. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorial donations be made in Fred's name to Ducks Unlimited at www.ducks.org. Arrangements are in the care of the Lary Funeral Home.
