Fred Wampler Obituary
Fred C. Wampler, age 84, of Kingsport, passed away on Thursday, July 31, 2025. Fred was born and raised in Scott County, Virginia. He graduated from Gate City High School in 1959 and from Virginia Tech in 1964, with a degree in chemical engineering. While at Virginia Tech, Fred co-oped with Eastman Chemical Company in Kingsport. Upon graduation, he began his lifelong career with Eastman, retiring in 1999.
Fred and his wife Jean loved nothing more than having their grandkids at the house for a week during the kids school breaks. They enjoyed trips to Bays Mountain, Roan Mountain, Grandfather Mountain and Natural Tunnel. He was an avid photographer and musician; he loved playing piano and trombone. Fred also liked computers and programming.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Emmaline Page Wampler; and sister, Brenda Joyce Watson.
Fred is survived by his wife of 62 years, Jean Salyer Wampler; daughter, Vicki Ward (Andy); son, Stephen Wampler (Kim); and grandchildren, Blake Wampler and Erika Edmondson (Caleb).
A private family service will be held for Fred in the near future.
