Obituary For Mr. Fred Wilson Waugh Henderson, Jr.
Fred Wilson Waugh Henderson Jr. began his earthly journey in High Point, NC on February 2, 1943, and he entered eternal rest on October 15, 2024, at Iredell Memorial Hospital, Statesville, NC. He was 81 years, 8 months, and 13 days old. He was one of six children born to the union of the late Fred Wilson Henderson Sr. and Icie Mae Henderson.
Fred Jr. was a graduate of William Penn High School, class of 1963. He enlisted and served a tour of duty in the United States Air Force. He was a skilled aircraft mechanic working on 1 and 2 engine jet aircrafts in Tokyo, Japan, and a veteran of the Vietnam War. During his tour he married his high school sweetheart, Betty Peguese of Cheraw SC (1965). In this union he had Maurnita, Fred W. W. III, Tammie, and Tonya Dixon. Betty transitioned in September 1981.
After Betty's passing, Fred Jr. continued his love for his family. He later met and married Pearl Davis, who resides in High Point, NC (1982-2014). From this union, they had one child, Delilah Henderson. Two additional children were merged from this union, which are William and Regina Davis.
Fred Jr. grew up in a close-knit family that valued hard work and education. He was a beloved husband, father, and grandfather, which was known for his kind heart and sense of humor. He accepted Christ in his life at an early age and acknowledged his calling to preach. He was a loyal member of William Memorial C.M.E. Church, under the leadership of Pastor Robert Williams, where he became an associate minister and preached his trial sermon.
Fred Jr. was also known for his warm heart and generous spirit, always ready to lend a helping hand to those in need. Throughout his life, he was actively involved in various community projects and organizations, continuing the legacy of service that his parents had started. His impact on the lives of those around him will be remembered fondly by all who have had the privilege of knowing him.
Fred Jr. was particularly influenced by his parents' dedication to their community and their commitment to help others. This upbringing instilled in him a strong sense of responsibility and compassion.
Later he became a member of Solid Rock Baptist Church, under the leadership of Pastor Alphonso Martin, where he continued his love singing, praising, and worshipping God. His hobbies were gardening, taking pictures, and taking pleasure in life. Fred Jr.'s impact on his community was profound and lasting. Known for his welcoming nature, he brought people together and fostered a sense of unity among neighbors. He was known as "Uncle Fred" by many. His kindness and generosity left a lasting impression on everyone he met, making him a beloved figure in the neighborhood and a source of inspiration.
Formatively, Fred Jr. was a resident of The Stratford Retirement Facility where he participated in daily activities. He was responsible for welcoming new arrivals, bringing joy, and warmth to his fellow residents. He sang and worshipped, sharing his passion for music and faith with others. His enthusiasm and leadership helped foster a close-knit community, making The Stratford feel like home for many. He later moved from an independent to assisted living facility, and later to a nursing home as his health declined.
Fred Jr. was preceded in death by his wife, Betty J. Henderson; Parents: Fred Sr. and Icie Mae Henderson; Grandparents: John Herbert and Amie Lula Hayes; and a brother, Frank Benjamin (who died shortly after his birth).
He leaves to cherish his memories: daughter, Maurnita (Geronie) Jones, son, Fred W.W. III (Ruth) Henderson both of Greensboro, NC, daughters, Tonya (Andre) Dixon-Thompson of Pineville, NC, Tammie Dixon of Charlotte, NC, Delilah (Dante) Ferrell of Cary, NC, step-children, Regina Davis of High Point, NC and William Davis of Duluth, GA, one aunt, Virginia (Joseph) Sanchez, three sisters: Amie Lula (John) Hill of Archdale, NC, Glenda (James) Martin of High Point, NC, Carla Johnson, of Winston-Salem, NC, three brothers: Abraham B. Henderson of Detroit, MI, Albert T. (Irene) Henderson, and Lacy L. Henderson both of High Point, NC; he is also survived by thirty grandchildren, a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends.

Funeral service will be held Friday, October 25, 2024 at 12:00 p.m. at Solid Rock Baptist Church. Interment will follow at Carolina Biblical Gardens. The family will receive friends at the church from 11:30 a.m. until 12:00 p.m.
