Fred Thomas Witsell 101, of Piedmont AL, passed away on February 8th at his home, surrounded by family.

Freddie was born on November 26th, 1923 in Mobile AL to Frances and Robert Witsell and grew up in New Orleans LA. He graduated from Warren Easton High School in New Orleans, LA in1940. After graduating from Cal- Aero Technical Institute, he had a long career in the aerospace industry. In 1951 he married Lou Ella Reynaud from Marksville, LA.

Fred, a devoted husband and family man, was known for his sharp intellect as well as his dry sense of humor and enjoyment of comedy and old movies. He enjoyed watching golf and baseball as well as tinkering with cars and doing small projects around the house. Painting and drawing brought him great pleasure; having completed several sketches as recently as one week ago. 

He is survived by his children: Tom Witsell, Margie Byington (Bruce, deceased), Larry Witsell (Gina), Anne Knight (Jerald), Cathy Villalobos (Gonzalo), Bob Witsell (Pam), and Don Witsell (Erica), 17 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.

A service will be held on Tuesday, February 11th, at 1pm at Saint Joachim’s Catholic Church in Piedmont AL. Family will receive visitors from 12:00 to 1:00. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to St Jude’s Children’s Hospital (https://www.stjude.org/).

Fred was the epitome of a southern gentleman and will always be remembered with great respect and deep love.
