Freda Denise Cleveland was born in Atlanta, Georgia on July 5, 1966 to the late Edward Cleveland Sr. and Nellie Mae Cleveland. Freda accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at Springfield Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. Marion Knight.
Her primary education began in Atlanta Public Schools (Venetian Hills Elementary). She graduated from D.M. Therrell High School in June of 1984 and continued her education at Johnson C. Smith University in Charlotte, North Carolina. After returning home, Freda began a career at Grady Memorial Hospital as a Radiology Clerk. Soon after, she attended Atlanta Area Technical College, where she obtained her EMS license. Eventually, she advanced to the level of Paramedic at the Fulton County Training Center, joining the ranks of other young black female paramedics.
After several years of being gainfully employed at Grady, in 1997 Freda started her family with her bird, the late (J.C.). In August of 1999, she and Charles Edward Gossett were blessed with a handsome son, Michael Charles-Edward Cleveland, whom she always loved, cherished, and adored. Freda was a strong and unwavering supporter of her family and son. She had the biggest heart and cared dearly for others.
After spending over 25 years as a paramedic, she later retired. Freda unconditionally supported her son Michael in every way, especially through college and was made "the proudest mother in the world" to see him graduate.
Humble, stoic, but affectionate. Reserved, but always there for others. We honor a woman whose purpose in life was to serve as the rock in lives of others.
Freda lived a life guided by the Principles of Family: treating others right, loving all, serving and sacrificing without complaint. Freda peacefully transitioned from this life and received her eternal crown on Friday July 19, 2024. Rest well, thy good and faithful servant.
To remember and carry on her legacy of love, she leaves: her supportive and loving son Michael Charles-Edward Cleveland, her forever-loving sister and brother Falinda Cleveland-Hill and Edward Cleveland Jr. (Yolanda), two dedicated nieces, Lakeisha and Kristina Hill, two caring nephews, Edward Hill Jr. and Dakari Cleveland, two dear great nieces, Kennedy Miller and Journee Hill, one adoring great nephew Kameron Miller, two loving aunts, Precious Phillips (Ruban) and Marsha Carmichael, her Son's Godparents Angela Rogers (Anthony), her Chosen Sister and College Roommate Jearlynn S. Winley, a loyal best-friend and former co-worker Ardie Walton Sr., and a host of family and friends that she loved forever and always.

I worked with Freda at Grady EMS for several years. I had a few occasions to work alongside her on the ambulance. I remember that she had just had her hair done and we had a less than cooperative patient that we were trying to get into restraints. It was hot, our AC was out and she told the lady "You made me sweat my do out!" Funny how some memories stand out. She was so nice and a pleasure to be around. She will be missed.
