My deepest condolences to family and friends that are grieving the passing of Freda Lush (aunt). She impacted many lives, including my own, for which I am grateful.
Growing up, there were so many stories we were told by our mother (Freda´s sister) about being raised in rural Kentucky, within a family with 5 children, in the Great Depression. Aunt Freda was frequently not only in the story, but a focal point of many adventures and misadventures alike. From the group of kids catching a mole by the tail and it biting Aunt Freda on the shoulder, to the kids forming an assembly line of planting seeds in the field and Aunt Freda getting her heel struck by a hoe, to a game they created where Aunt Freda was blindfolded and led by her siblings through a cow field with, let´s just say, less than accurate directives on where she should step. Despite their circumstances, they always seemed to be laughing and having great fun.
Later in life, Aunt Freda would join my mother and visit me in Florida. More adventures ensued from picking (sour) oranges, to jet skiing, to setting the house alarm off multiple times in various escapades.
When I think of Aunt Freda, I think of hearty laughing, her sweet Southern accent & sayings, a bit of mischief, the bond of family & stories, and the ability to make the best out of life´s circumstances. I´m grateful for her life and her many kindnesses over the years. Overall, I´m left with a warm feeling of love and joy, and that hasn´t changed with her passing. The impact of her life lives on in each of us.
