Mt. Gilead: Frederick R. "Freddie" Cline, 68, of Mt. Gilead passed away Friday, January 24, 2025 at OhioHealth Mansfield Hospital following a brief illness.
The son of Frederick W. and Mary Cline, Freddie was born April 23, 1956 in Mt. Gilead where he grew up on his family's farm.
Freddie first met Vonnie Anthony on a blind date. The two were married on October 3, 1981.
For 7 years, Freddie and Vonnie lived in Florida where he worked for Don's Towing and Salvage. He also assisted Vonnie with her work on a local dairy ranch. The two moved back to Ohio, with their two sons Justin and Jamie.
For over 20 years he worked for Rusk Brothers Auto Recyclers in Ashley, as a heavy equipment operator. Freddie loved to rebuild and fix cars. He and Vonnie would go to the races at Mid Ohio Sports Car Course.
Freddie loved his family and spending time with them. He, Vonnie and the boys would often camp, especially at Pleasant Hill where they would take family hikes. Freddie's love of camping was also shared with his grandchildren as they often joined papaw and grandma at Pleasant Hill. He enjoyed fishing at Lake Erie, and even deep sea fished off of the Florida Coast as well.
Freddie made the best biscuits and gravy. A homemade family recipe that he shared with his sons. He also grilled and smoked delicious meals.
He will be remembered as a man who loved his family and was hard working.
He is survived by his wife Vonnie Cline; sons Justin (Anna) Cline and Jamie Cline (Maygan Durst); grandchildren Sara, Kaylee, Axle, and baby Noah on the way; siblings Mary Carroll, Betty Salmon, Debbie Cline, and Tony (Tammy) Cline; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.
Along with his parents he was preceded in death by his sisters Annie Hall and Carolyn Pruitt.
A memorial gathering will be held Saturday, February 1, 2025 from 12 pm - 2 pm in the Richardson Davis Chapel Snyder Funeral Home where Freddie's memorial service will begin at 2 pm.
