Freddy (Fred) Galen Hollenbeck, age 88 of Marcus, IA, passed away Tuesday, November 18, 2025, at Heartland Care Center in Marcus, IA. Private family graveside services will be held at a later date. Fred Galen Hollenbeck, the son of Galen and Fanchion (Conley) Hollenbeck, was born on October 19, 1937, in Cherokee County, Iowa. His childhood years were spent in or near Cherokee, IA. He graduated from Washington High School.
Following graduation, he joined the US Army. On January 1, 1960, he was united in marriage to Arlene Anderson. Following their marriage, they resided in Granite City, IL until Fred left the Army. They then returned to the Cherokee area. Over the years, Fred worked in construction, at the Wilson packing plant, and as an appliance repair man, even having his own small business for a time. However, he was also always involved in farming to one degree or another. He farmed exclusively from 1968 to 1995. In 1995 he began short haul trucking before retiring in 1999.
Fred enjoyed staying active, watching sports, caring for animals, and traveling. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with family and friends.
Fred was preceded in death by his parents, Galen and Fanchion Hollenbeck; wife, Arlene Hollenbeck; daughter, Denise Hop; sister, Darlene Dyslin; and brother, Harley Hollenbeck.
He will lovingly be remembered by his; children, Lori (Carl) Talley of Virginia and Kent (Jennifer) Hollenbeck of Oregon; grandchildren, Kyle and Nora Talley of Virginia; sister Vicki Sundheim of Minnesota; and other relatives and friends.
