ARLENE ELLEN HOLLENBECK
Arlene Ellen Hollenbeck, age 83 of Marcus, IA, passed away Saturday, October 19, 2024, at Orange City Healthcare in Orange City, IA. Private family graveside services will be held at a later date. The Greenwood-Schubert Funeral Home in Marcus, IA is assisting the family with arrangements. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.greenwoodfuneral.com
Arlene Ellen Hollenback, the daughter of Elmer and Irene (Diegel) Anderson, was born on October 26, 1940, in Plymouth County, Iowa. Her childhood years were spent on the farm south of Marcus, IA. She attended and graduated from Grand Meadow School.
Following graduation, she worked as a telephone operator for many years. On January 1, 1960, she was united in marriage to Freddie Hollenbeck. Following their marriage, they resided in the Marcus and Cherokee areas. Arlene drove a school bus for several years, before attending the University of South Dakota and earned a degree as a dental hygienist. She worked at various dental offices until her retirement.
Arlene enjoyed genealogy, reading, and knitting. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Marcus, IA, and also a member of the Marcus Historical Society. Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with family and friends.
Arlene was preceded in death by her parents, Elmer and Irene Anderson; and one daughter, Denise Hop.
She will lovingly be remembered by her husband, Fred Hollenbeck of Marcus, IA; children, Lori (Carl) Talley of Virginia and Kent (Jennifer) Hollenbeck of Oregon; grandchildren, Kyle and Nora Talley of Virginia; one brother, Clarence (Koreen) Anderson of Cherokee, IA; and other relatives and friends.
