Freddy J. Johnson, affectionately known as Freddy to all who knew him, passed away peacefully on February 15, 2026, in
Odessa, TX, at the age of 84. Born on April 12, 1941, in
Muleshoe, TX, Freddy was a man of generous spirit, thoughtful nature, and boundless creativity. His life was marked by his love for his family, his country, and the simple joys that made his world go round.
Freddy's early life in Muleshoe laid the foundation for the resilient and hardworking man he would become. After graduation his path led him to proudly serve in the US Army. During his three years of service, Freddy earned commendations for Expert pistol, Expert gunner (90mm), Sharpshooter (AR 30 Cal), and Marksman (Rifle), which spoke volumes of his dedication and skill.
Upon returning to civilian life, Freddy found his calling in carpentry, becoming a self-taught master of his craft. His hands could create wonders, from sturdy porches to intricate additions to homes. His work was not just a job but a passion, an expression of the love he had for creating something lasting and beautiful.
Freddy's zest for life was not limited to his work. He was a dynamo on the dance floor, often seen twirling and stepping in time with his beloved partner. Those lucky enough to witness his dance moves saw a man in his element, full of joy and life. His love for dance was paralleled by his love for shopping on QVC, where he found treasures and trinkets to share with those he cherished or to keep as personal keepsakes.
To Freddy, family was everything. He is survived by his devoted son, Kevin Johnson of Odessa; his loving daughter, Jeatonne, and her husband, James Terry, also of Odessa; and a legacy of numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren who will miss his presence dearly. Freddy was a beacon of love and laughter in their lives, and his memory will be cherished in their hearts forever.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Arthor and Evelyn (Craig) Johnson, his daughters, Tisha and Belinda Johnson, his sisters, Latrisha and Glenda Johnson, and daughter-in-law, Kimberly Johnson. They have now welcomed Freddy into eternal rest, where they may be together once more.
Freddy's love extended beyond his immediate family to his two cherished chihuahuas. These furbabies were the recipients of his constant care and affection, no matter how mischievous they might have been. His fondness for eagles was also well-known, as he admired their majestic appearance and the freedom they symbolized.
Those who knew Freddy understood that his teasing was a sign of affection. If he picked on you, you were family in his eyes, and that meant you were loved for life. Freddy's generous, thoughtful, and creative spirit touched many lives, and his absence will be deeply felt by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
As we bid farewell to Freddy J. Johnson, we celebrate a life well-lived, a life full of passion, love, and laughter. His legacy will live on through the memories we hold dear and the lives he has shaped. May he rest in peace, knowing he was truly loved and will be forever missed.
Freddy will have an eternal resting space at Texas State Veteran Cemetery in
Abilene, TX.
