Frederic R. Abbott

Frederic R. Abbott, 80, of Salem, passed away Wednesday, March 22, at home surrounded by his loved ones. Born in Marblehead, he was the son of the late Henry and Florence (Lent) Abbott. He was the beloved husband of Judith (O'Connell) Abbott with whom he shared 59 years of marriage before her passing.
Fred spent most of his career working at Eastern Bag & Paper Company (FKA Salem Paper Company). After 35 years, in 2009, he retired. In 2020, Fred was blessed with his first great grandchild, Luke Berry. In 2022, he was blessed with another great grandchild Cameron Berry. He loved these boys with all his heart.
Fred enjoyed camping & making large fires to roast marshmallows to enjoy with Samoas, his favorite Girl Scout cookies. Over time, he gave up the tents for the occasional stay at motels in Alton Bay, NH with Judy. Fred had a passion for cats. In his lifetime he had over 30 cats, many of which were rescues. It gave him great pleasure to rescue and care for these cats.
Frederic is survived by his daughter, Lynn Abbott and significant other David Cecere of Peabody; grandchild, Joshua Berry and his fiancé Samantha Sullivan of Derry, NH and great grandchildren Luke and Cameron Berry of Derry, NH. He was predeceased by his parents and wife; three brothers, Hank, David and Thomas Abbott and two sisters, Lois Abbott and Jean Buckley.
Frederic's funeral service will be at the Campbell Funeral Home, 525 Cabot St., Beverly, on Thursday, March 30, at 10:30am. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting hours at the Campbell Funeral Home will be Wednesday, March 29, from 4:00-7:00pm. Burial will be at Puritan Lawn Cemetery, Peabody.
