Frederick Otto Behr

1937 - 2022

Frederick Otto Behr passed away peacefully on August 31, 2022, at the Presbyterian Home in New Hartford, New York. He was born March 22, 1937, in Oneida, New York, the son of the late Otto and Frances (Koenan) Behr. He attended Oneida schools, graduating from Oneida High School, class of 1955. He served three years in the Navy as an Electrical Technician, on the carrier ship the U.S.S. Tarawa. During his time in the Navy, he sailed from the Arctic Circle to within 10 miles of the Antarctic Circle. He visited Holland, England, Virgin Islands, Brazil and Cuba. Fred married Patricia Ann Moyer in October of 1963, moving to Utica and eventually Whitesboro, making a home there for over 50 years. They have two children, a daughter, Susan and a son, David. Fred worked for many years in the computer industry and he was so very proud of all of his accomplishments in and contributions to the field. He was an Engineering Technician at UNIVAC, followed by a career as a Technical Writer for both Mohawk Data Systems (MDS) and Momentum. In his retirement, he earned an Associates of Applied Science degree in Data Processing from MVCC. In his spare time, Fred enjoyed golfing, movies, and grilling for friends and family. For many years, he golfed at the Hidden Valley Golf Course in Whitesboro, scoring a one-time hole-in-one on hole number 3. He was very proud of that achievement. He was very active in his church St. Anne’s Parish of Whitesboro and he enjoyed bringing his family to the church’s picnics. Fred suffered from blindness in his later years and received much support and help from many people including CABVI, Behr’s Home Care, and The Presbyterian Home. The family wishes to thank all the individuals who helped along Fred’s journey. Special thanks to Ruth, Bonnie, Lilli, and all the consistently compassionate nurses and caregivers on the Trenton wing of the Presbyterian Home. Fred is survived by his wife, Patricia; his daughter, Susan Keehle (Kevin), of Sauquoit; his son, David Behr (Rachel), of Las Vegas, NV; his granddaughter, Julianna Behr; his grandson, Joseph Behr; his cousin Catherine Seibert; sister-in-law Rita Behr; nephew, Robert Behr; and his niece, Lisa Behr. He is also survived by his very special friends, Reverend Michael Carmola, Louis Best, Edward Trzepacz, and Peter Terenzetti. He enjoyed many good times with these gentleman, including memories from childhood and beyond. He was predeceased by his sister, Eleanor Behr; father, Otto Behr; mother, Frances Behr; and brother, Donald Behr. Friends and relatives are invited to visitation on Thursday, September 8, 2022, from 5:00-7:00 PM at Ironside Funeral Home, 342 Main Street, Oneida, NY. His Funeral Mass will be held Friday, September 9, 10:00 AM at St. Joseph’s Church, 121 St. Joseph Place, Oneida, NY. Interment with Military Honors will be held at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Durhamville.
