Frederick Alexander Bruce

Our beloved Frederick Alexander Bruce IV, 31, passed away peacefully and unexpectedly on January 15th, 2024 at his home in Albuquerque, New Mexico. He was born on March 10, 1992 in Boulder, Colorado to Jeffrey and Janet Bruce. Along with his older sister, Emily, the family moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico that same year.

Alex (a.k.a. Bruce to his friends) lived in Fort Wayne, Indiana where he attended Carroll High School for his first three years. He graduated from La Cueva High School in Albuquerque, NM. in 2010. Alex also lived in Austin, Texas for a number of years after high school.

Alex was a 'people person' and a seasoned server in Austin and Albuquerque.

Alex had a love of nature and found peace and connection in the beauty of the outdoors. Part of his love of nature included adventures with his favorite people. He especially loved flying through the trees and taking jumps on his snowboard. He enjoyed golfing at different golf courses around New Mexico and cruising in the golf cart. He was always up for throwing the frisbee or football around at the park; he was known for making outrageous diving catches. He had fond memories of camping trips, vacations, and kayaking. He was always trusted to be the firemaster. As much as he loved the mountains and would often hike, he also had fun playing at the beach. He would show everyone up with his skimboarding skills. He was enthusiastic about amusement parks and loved extreme roller coasters. His taste in music was eclectic. He most identified with hip-hop/rap and was famous for freestyling 4-6 lines about you on the spot. He was known for his sense of style. He took pride in making sure every detail of his outfits were coordinated, interesting, and looked great. He had become quite a chef and he made cooking together memorable. Alex loved pets and was the proud owner of two cats.

At a young age Alex exhibited humor, intelligence and perception.

He was adept at video games, which he continued to enjoy into adulthood.

Growing up he loved climbing trees and could hang out up there for hours. He played soccer, tennis, and ping pong; he rode bikes and skateboards. He ran track and cross-country. He even made it to Nationals one year. He enjoyed watching movies, and his favorites included Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings. Holidays were big in his life. He loved a family birthday that always lasted longer than a day. He loved the traditions around Christmas and the family memories created. He became an expert at deep-frying the Thanksgiving turkey. His favorite holiday was Halloween. He loved going to haunted houses, dressing up, carving pumpkins, all of it.

Alex cared deeply about his people and would do anything to make them laugh, to cheer them up, or just to make sure they were okay. He loved having fun in any way he could. He made his presence known in every room and would help with whatever project you were working on, teasing you along the way. His heart was kind, generous, loving, sweet, and more sensitive than he would let on. We will miss the energy, humor, and joy he brought to everyday situations.

Alex is greatly loved and will be profoundly missed. He is survived by his mother, Janet Bruce; sister, Emily Arnold and her husband Justin Arnold; nephew, Bryce Arnold. His relatives include: Carol Galante, Jimmy and Susan Schwass, Mary Schwass, Peggy and Larry Herweg, Joan Stetter, Steven and Denise Bruce, Peter and Beth Bruce and an abundance of extended family and friends that he cared for deeply. He is preceded in death by his father, Jeffrey Bruce; maternal grandparents, Robert and Catherine Schwass; paternal grandparents, Frederick Alexander and Elizabeth Bruce.

There will be a memorial service held for Alex Bruce on Friday February 16, 2024 - 10:00 am at French Funerals on Wyoming Blvd in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

The family has planned a reception immediately following the service, where friends and family are welcome to gather and share their memories.

The interment will be held in Winnetka, Illinois this summer. Details will be forthcoming.
