Frederick Zelinka Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Messinger Mortuaries-Fountain Hills Mortuary on Jan. 28, 2025.
Frederick "Fred" Zelinka, 99, passed away on January 24, 2025 in Scottsdale, AZ just 3 months shy of his 100th birthday.
Fred was the son of Michael and Ana and was born in Yonkers, NY. His mother and father had migrated to the US from the Ukraine where they settled in New York. Being the son of a baker, Fred learned early on in life the value of hard work. He had two sisters; Marion and Nancy, who preceded him in death.
Fred entered the Army in 1943 and served honorably in WWII where he became a member of the original Army Air Corps and flew in a B25 bomber as a Radio Operator. Following the war, Fred attended MIT on the GI bill where he received a degree in Electrical Engineering. He later received his MBA while working for Sperry in New York. During this time, he agreed to a blind date where he met the love of his life; Roberta "Bobbie" Roberts.
Fred moved his family to Texas for a new opportunity in 1970, where he worked for Motorola Automotive Products. His next chapter started when he moved to Arizona in 1980 to work for Motorola Government Electronics Division. He retired in 1992 and enjoyed his life in the home he built in Fountain Hills, AZ. He also enjoyed golfing and was a member of multiple golf leagues, and loved spending time with his family and friends.
Fred was devoted to his Catholic Church and served as President of Knights of Columbus as well as Parish Council President.
Fred and Bobbie were married for 70 years and had three sons; Fred, David, and John. Fred was preceded in death by his mother and father, and his two sisters. His first born and namesake, Freddie, preceded his dad's death, as did his wife of 70 years, Bobbie. He is survived by his son David and daughter-in-law Deanna, his son John, granddaughters Katherine and Chloe, and grandson, Andrew.
While we lost our most beloved dad, many have lost a friend and loved one in him. He has been a rock to many, a master at sarcastic humor and witty timing to others. Until his last day here on Earth, Fred was loved and adored by anyone who met him. There was so much more to him than just dad, he was also a friend, a coworker and colleague, a brother, and uncle. It was his wish that we laugh and reminisce and smile together during this time and celebrate his long life!
