Elisabeth Gail Smith Dobbs Bullock age 84 of Austell Georgia, sadly passed away peacefully from cancer on July 23, 2024.
She was born in Raleigh, North Carolina in 1940. She attended Broughton High School in Raleigh, NC. She loved being a Girl Scout. Her favorite memories as a little girl were time spent at her Girl Scout camp, Camp Lapihio in Raleigh.
She is proud of many things, she lived a full and happy life. Some things she's most proud of:
Raising two children, saving lives as a lifeguard, painting a portrait of her Great grandfather, W.H. Smith, who was the first Sheriff of Vance County North Carolina. (1881)
She is preceded in death by her Husband Hoke Bullock, Wilmington NC; and ex-husband Timothy Belcher Dobbs, Atlanta GA. Parents: Carolyn Elisabeth Whitten Smith and Philip Benjamin Smith Jr., Raleigh, NC. A favorite family member of hers was her Aunt Folsom Smith, Spartanburg SC. Mom said, "Aunt Folsom always had her back".
She was a notable newspaper columnist for the Advertiser News, writing over 500 articles. She also served in administration for the Georgia Department of Education. She drove a semi-tractor trailer at the age of 55, honoring her father who did the same. She volunteered in several organizations. She served as President of the Macon-Bibb County Democratic Women's Association. She was a member of Chapter 2411 of the United Daughters of the Confederacy. She was the Director of the swimming safety program for the American Red Cross.
She had many hobbies and interests. She loved caring for her little dogs, Buckeye and Chee Chee. Watching and feeding her two favorite Hummingbirds, Dolly and Tiki. She enjoyed Southern Rock and Bluegrass music. She loved swimming, teaching swimming, and saving lives as a lifeguard. Her proudest accomplishment was completing her 50 mile swim for the Red Cross which she extended to 62 miles. She enjoyed rooting for her favorite hockey team, the Winnipeg Jets with her friend Darlene. She loved oil painting, Notable for a portrait of Chief Justice of the South Carolina Supreme Court, Judge Bruce LittleJohn, which hangs in the South Carolina Supreme Court House.
Gail is survived by her brother Brother: Philip Whitten Smith (Jane), Raleigh NC; sons Timothy Vance Dobbs (Barbara), Acworth GA; and Mark Russell Dobbs (Anita) Stockbridge, GA. Step-children Michael Dobbs and Jennifer Dobbs Bell. Grandchildren: Amber Dobbs Moultrie (Randall) Austell GA; Timothy Alexander Dobbs Austell GA; Alayna Halvorsen, Los Angeles CA; Ashton Presley Dobbs College Park GA.
Step Grandchildren: Amber Davis Howell (Zack) Newnan GA; Lauren Lambert (Scott) Acworth GA; Alicia Cannon (Stephen) Acworth GA; Victoria Baker Dallas, GA; Ellie Southard Dallas GA. Great Grandchildren: Ariel Lambert, Rebecca Lambert, Chloe Lambert, Acworth GA; Everett Cannon, Wyatt Cannon, Charlotte Cannon, Acworth GA; Caden Gerald, Ava Howell, Russell Howell, and Jackson Howell, Newnan GA.
A celebration of life is being held at Freedom Church in Acworth, GA on August 11th, at 4:00 pm with a reception following after at the Dobbs residence.
