Guest Book
Our loving mother, grandmother, and wife of Dennis James Dalton returned home to our
Heavenly Father on November 13, 2023, at age 85. Gail Lynn Elwell Dalton, of Taylor, UT,
passed away peacefully with her family by her side at the Lotus Park Senior Assisted Living
Center in West Haven, Utah.
Gail was born on July 16, 1938, in Havre, Montana, to Arthur Lynn and Wilma Loretta Miller Elwell.
Gail met the love of her life, Dennis, at the Weber College Institute of Religion. The two were married on June 5, 1959, at Bertha Eccles in Ogden, Utah, and sealed in the Salt Lake City Temple on September 14, 1960.
Gail graduated from Ogden High School, Weber State College, and Utah State College.
Gail had a master’s degree in education. Gail taught 2nd grade at many different schools in
Weber County and retired from Country View Elementary. Gail loved teaching and shared her
love with all the students she taught! Even after retirement, Gail continued to educate students
as a substitute teacher for another 10 years; they loved her and called her Grandma Dalton!!
Our mother’s greatest joy was her family. Gail loved family parties where she would
shower everyone with her love. She always wanted the family together. Gail had many talents:
She was an artist who loved to work with oils, watercolors, and acrylics. Gail loved gardening
and found great joy in planting. She loved to travel with Dennis and was able to visit many of
this world’s greatest treasures! She had a beautiful voice and sang until her illness took her voice. Gail loved to hear her grandchildren and great-grandchildren sing to her, and she would sing along with them. Gail loved to read books to her family and
instilled in us the joy of a good book. Gail was known as the ‘book grandma.
Gail was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving in many
church callings. Gail loved our Heavenly Father and his Son Jesus Christ and was a valiant
servant to all who knew her. Gail loved to work on family history and shared that love with her
daughters. Gail was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Daughters of the
Civil War, and Daughters of Utah Pioneers.
Preceding Gail in death were her sister Patsy Lee Elwell Higgs and brother Ralph Arthur
Elwell; her loving parents, Arthur and Wilma Elwell; her son Kim James Dalton; her son-in-law
C. Brad Story; and her great-grandson, Charles Elias Story Jr.
Surviving her are her husband, Dennis; and her five daughters, Pamela Kay (Jeffrey
Ray) Gibson, Brisbane, Queensland (Mission) - two sons and eight grandchildren; Debra Jane
(C. Brad) Story, Wasilla, Alaska - one son, two daughters, and eight grandchildren; Heidi
Lynn (Jim) Bahr, Taylor, Utah - three sons and three grandchildren; Lara Lee (Derk) Russel,
