LANCASTER, SC ~ Linda Gail Hoffman Stevens, a woman whose life was defined by quiet strength and an unwavering heart, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, March 20, 2026, at the age of 74. Born on July 24, 1951, she was the cherished daughter of the late William Edward Hoffman and Mary Estees Hoffman.
Gail was the cornerstone of her family, a steady, loving presence whose warmth left a lasting impression on everyone she met. A nurse by trade and a caregiver by nature, she possessed a rare gift for looking after others with grace and excellence. Her kitchen was often filled with the aroma of new recipes, and her happiest moments were spent lost in a good book or listening to the waves on a quiet beach.
A true jewel, Gail had a way of making those in her circle feel like the center of her world, often reminding them they were her "heart." As a devoted wife, mother, sister, and friend, her kindness was a gift she gave freely, and her joy was a light that will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Gail was a woman of profound faith whose life served as a testament to her devotion. A steadfast prayer warrior and a dedicated member of Second Baptist Church, she walked a path of grace and spiritual commitment. Her legacy is defined by her cheerful generosity, as she poured her heart into supporting the many causes and charities, she held dear.
Gail is survived by her husband of 56 years, John E. Stevens; her two sons, John Christopher Stevens, and Michael Stevens (Kara); her mother, Mary Estees Hoffman; three brothers, Ganson Hoffman (Beth), T.R. Hoffman (Jessie), and Billy Joe Hoffman; and her sister, Doris Williams (Jimmy). She was preceded in death by her father, William Edward Hoffman.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, March 23, 2026, at the Chapel of Burgess Funeral Home, 1800 Charlotte Hwy., Lancaster, SC, officiated by Dr. David Carlton.
