Galen John Cox 78 of Dike, Iowa passed away on December 9, 2024, peacefully in Waterloo under the care of Cedar Valley Hospice. He was born on November 4, 1946, in Cherokee, Iowa, the son of John and Viola “Lucille” Cox.
Galen was a graduate of Iowa State University, he then enlisted in the United States Army. He served from 1969 to 1971 and was wounded in Vietnam. Galen was a decorated veteran including a purple heart. He was a member of the Dike Lions Club for 15 years and was a strong supporter of DNH athletics.
Galen is survived by his wife, Lilia Cox, sons, Michael (Sara) Cox, Robert (Anita)Cox. Grandchildren, Tanner Cox, Tessa Cox, Jacob Cox, Ryan Cox, Kevin (Jennypher) Dhuyvetter, and Jason (Sarah) Miller. Great Grandchildren Liam and Amari Cox.
Preceded in death by his parents, John and Lucille Viola Cox, first wife Deborah Cox, second wife, Ruth Cox and grandson Tyler Cox.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, January 19, 2025, at Abels Funeral Home - Dike Chapel at 11:00 am. A luncheon and time for fellowship will follow at Dike City Hall.
