Garland Earls Obituary

Published by Legacy on May 11, 2022.
Garland Earls was born January 8, 1942, in Austin, Texas, to the late Rev. Mace and Mildred Earls. His parents and older sister, Alice, preceded him in death. He completed his earthly journey on November 30, 2021.
Garland accepted Christ as his personal Savior at a young age and was baptized at the Nineteenth Street Baptist Church at the original location under the late Rev. Harold T. Branch.
Garland received his elementary education at L. L. Campbell Elementary School and secondary education at Kealing Junior High School. He played football and graduated from Stephen F. Austin High School. Although he did not attend the Original L. C. Anderson High School, his attendance at the High School Reunions made him an honorary 'Yellow Jacket'.
After graduating from high school, he served in the US military in the branch of the United States Army.
In 1969, he relocated to San Francisco and lived in many locations within the Bay Area during his 25 years of residence. His only daughter was born later that year. He was employed by the shipyards on the San Francisco Bay and branched off and started his own recycling business. Garland bought homes in California and Texas, refurbished and leased them to tenants.
Garland was a faithful and dedicated member of Trinity Baptist Church in Daly City, California and served on the Deacon and Usher Boards.
After relocating back to Austin, Texas in 1995, he joined the Mount Sinai Missionary Baptist Church. Garland loved his church family and his Pastor who he endearingly referred to as just 'A.W.A.'. At the 'Mount', he served faithfully as a Deacon and taught the 'Good News' Sunday School class for many years. Garland led the Street Ministry until his health began to fail. He was a member of the Senior Adult Ministry and an usher with the General Services Auxiliary (GSA). Garland will be remembered for his distinctive 'swag' as he walked the aisles during church services at our previous location at 5900 Cameron Road.
Garland possessed a servant's heart and volunteered for the Meals on Wheels program delivering meals to Senior Citizens and bread and pastries to the needy. He also tutored students in reading fundamentals to obtain their GED.
With a few trucks he refurbished, Garland had the vision to create a food truck park on the land purchased by his parents many years ago on Howard Lane in Austin, Texas. He named the park Alice's Food Truck Court after his dearly departed older sister. There are now nine operational vendors on the property with a wide variety of delicious cuisine.
Garland leaves to cherish precious memories: his daughter, Gayna Monique Deon Wilson; granddaughter, Adriana Monique Deon McKinney; grandson, Jordan Alexander Wilson; great-grandson, Logan Alexander Clark; sister, Rosa Earls Johnson; nephew, Garland Mace Johnson; aunt, Minnie Sheppard; and a number of cousins and special friends.
