Garland Dee Wheeler, 81 of Cookeville, Tennessee, passed from this life on Tuesday, May 20, 2025, at Cookeville Regional Medical Center.
Garland was born on Sunday, December 12, 1943, in Nameless, Tennessee, and he was the son of the late Daniel Clarence Wheeler and the late Mary Ethel (Flatt) Wheeler.
Garland was a loving son, brother, husband, father, Grandpa, uncle, and friend. He graduated high school in 1962 from Rickman High School. He proudly served in the United States Army from 1968 - 1970 during the Vietnam era, serving in Germany, where he lived for two years. He loved the Lord and was baptized at an early age at Algood Church of Christ, where he served as a deacon later in life. He attended Willow Avenue Church of Christ, served as an elder, and was over the visitation ministry for many years. He worked for Randolph and Parks for 27-plus years, retiring in 2006. He was an avid golfer and loved his roses. Garland and Wilma enjoyed traveling, where they went to all 50 states, Europe, and many Caribbean islands. They loved going on cruises and camping with family and friends. Garland was loved by those who knew him, and he will be greatly missed.
Garland is survived by, Wife of 60 years, Wilma (Brown) Wheeler; Son, David Wheeler and his wife, Laura; 5 Grandchildren, Elizabeth Graham and her husband Austin, Emily Griffin and her husband Parker, and Shelby, Dave, and Nick Wheeler; 2 Great-Grandchildren, Landon and Damien; 2 Sisters, Mary Goolsby and Mai Stults; Son-In-Law, Anthony Smith; A host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and special friends.
In addition to his parents, Garland was preceded in death by his daughter, Jane Elisabeth (Wheeler) Smith; 10 Siblings, Willie, James, Martin, Mack, Earl, Lewis, Dow Wheeler, and Clella Wright, Thelma Clark, and Veria Reels.
Funeral Service will be held Friday, May 23, 2025, at 3:00 pm from the chapel of Crest Lawn Funeral Home with Bros. Johnny Fox and Mike Dyer officiating. Interment will follow at the Cookeville City Cemetery with full military honors.
Visitation will be held Friday, May 23, 2025 at from 1:00 pm until the time of service at Crest Lawn Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, Memorial Contributions may be made to The Upper Cumberland Christian Home at 790 State Street, Cookeville, Tennessee, 38501.
