Garnetta Winters, Age 82 of Owingsville, passed away on Friday, December 26, 2025, at the Saint Joseph Mount Sterling Hospital. Born on Monday, May 10, 1943, in Versailles, Kentucky, she was the daughter of the late Kirtley and Nannie Belle (Million) Wise. Born blind, her early childhood years were difficult, but her perseverance always overcame the trails she faced. She attended the Kentucky School for the Blind in Louisville, where she learned to live life to the fullest extent possible. After graduation, she held different jobs before working at the Kentucky Industries for the blind, which would change her life in many positive ways, most being, her husband Alva. Together they shared many years of love, travel, laughter and great memories before his passing in 2015. A strong Christian woman, her faith sustained her throughout many trials in life, and her family takes comfort knowing her sight is made perfect in the presence of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. After moving to Mount Sterling in 2000, she attended the Christian Assembly of God in Mount Sterling, but her heart never left her beloved church in Louisville, the Gospel Kingdom Church, where she enjoyed many lasting friendships. Garnetta lived a simple but enjoyable life, listening to audio books and the Bible, listening to old gospel and bluegrass music, as well as wholesome talks with her best friend, Connie. In addition to her parents, Garnetta was preceded in death by her sister, Jody Owens, brother, James Wise, 1st husband, Holly Oakley, and her lifelong companion/husband, Alva Winters.
She is survived by her daughter and devoted caretaker, Becky Kemplin (Tim) of Owingsville; sister, Joy Cain of Palm Harbor, Florida; Special Nephew, Gary Ball (Brigid DeVires) of Lexington; and several other nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be conducted at 2 PM on Tuesday, December 30, 2025, at Beckley Funeral Home with Brother Tim Perkins, a dear friend and member of the Gospel Kingdom Church, Officiating. Interment will follow at Wallace Cemetery in Lockport, Kentucky next to her husband, Alva. Visitation will be held from Noon until the time of service on Tuesday.
