Mrs. Garnieta Whitaker McNew

Mrs. Garnieta Whitaker McNew September 7, 1933 - November 3, 2025 Garnieta Whitaker McNew age 92 was born on September 7, 1933 and passed away peacefully on November 3, 2025 with her devoted husband Joe by her side. She accepted Christ as her personal Savior at an early age. She was a member of Cave Springs Baptist Church.
Garnieta was a graduate of Lincoln Memorial University. She taught school in Tennessee and Michigan and was employed by the Claiborne County School System as a teacher in the Adult Education Department when she retired.
She is preceded in death by her parents Haskel Paul and Bernice Parker Whitaker; infant brother Ralph Whitaker; her beloved grandparents who reared her, Harvey and Laura Whitaker; Aunts Pansy Dolski, Madeline Hill, and Cassie Tolbert; and special cousins Diana and Butch Reding.
Survivors include her dear husband of 73 years, Joe; son and wife Gregory and Rhonda McNew; granddaughter Heather Nicole McNew; grandson Christopher Jay McNew; special cousins Bob and Betty Hill (Elkridge, Maryland), Glenna and Jim Shelby (Greenfield, Indiana), Joy and Bill DeRocker (Zionsville, Indiana) and their families.
The family will receive friends Monday November 10, 2025 from 10:00am till 12:00 noon in the Claiborne ~ Overholt Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral services to follow at 12:00 noon in the Claiborne ~ Overholt Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Lawrence Fultz officiating. Burial to follow in the Cave Springs Cemetery.
