It is with heavy hearts we announce the unexpected passing of Garrett Allen Hinsey on February 14, 2024 at the age of 38.
Garrett was born in Manteca, CA on May 13, 1985 to Melanie Joy Hart-Hinsey and
Neal Allen Hinsey.
From a very young age, Garrett loved camping and fishing with his parents, sister
Emily and extended family. Garrett was very close with all of his grandparents. He
spent many memorable times catching Trophy Rainbow Trout at Eagle Lake and
sitting around the campfire with his grandma Jackie and grandpa Jim Glenn. Every
summer Garrett camped at Lake of the Springs with his grandma Violet "Noni"
and grandpa Jack Hart. They spent time swimming, fishing, hiking, paddle boating,
and learning about the importance of respecting nature. Garrett was our "Nature
Boy" and delighted in finding rocks, fossils, sea shells, lizards, snakes and bugs. He
carried on his love for these outdoor activities every chance he got throughout
the rest of his life.
Inspired by his grandpa Bill Hinsey, Garrett took up gold prospecting as a hobby. It
evolved into a lasting passion that he enjoyed regularly. He even partnered with
his life-long friend and "brother" Kyle Rines to help teach and guide others in
search of this valuable metal.
As a highly creative individual, Garrett could often be found immersed in various
artistic projects including drawing, painting, poetry writing and creating music. He
was a naturally gifted musician excelling at playing both the acoustic and electric
guitar, drums and singing. He was in his element while jamming with like minded
musicians as well as writing and recording music with his good friend Mark
Bourassa for their band Black Pyramids.
Garrett loved making those around him laugh with his distinct sense of humor.
Whether he was working with someone on a simple task or talking through a
challenging situation, he could turn it into an improv comedy skit leaving
everyone in better spirits.
Garrett felt a strong responsibility to support and protect his friends and family.
He often went out of his way to help those he loved, wanting to make sure
everyone knew they were seen, heard and cared for.
Garrett's love for the outdoors led him to attain a certificate in Landscaping
where he applied his knowledge helping beautify yards through landscaping
projects and gardening maintenance. Garrett also had a rewarding career at
Costco working at the Citrus Heights warehouse since 2016. He took pride in
caring for the plants in the garden center and was known to provide excellent
service to his customers. The relationships he had with his Costco family and
gardening clients greatly enriched his life.
Garrett found purpose for his life when he met and fell in love with Monique
Robinson and became a father to her beautiful daughters, Jayla and Gia. He
enjoyed getting to share his love for animals and the outdoors, often taking them
on nature walks. He worked hard and sacrificed to provide a good life for his
family.
Garrett leaves behind many loved ones including his grandmother Jacqueline
"Jackie" Glenn, father Neal Hinsey, mother Melanie Hart-Hinsey, bonus mother
Maria Hinsey, bonus father Jeff Kraus, sister Emily Stevenson and brother-in-law
Dominic Stevenson, "brother" Kyle Rines, partner Monique Robinson, daughters
Jayla and Gia, and many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Garrett was preceded
in death by his grandmother Violet Hart, grandfather Jack Hart, grandfather
William "Bill" Hinsey, and bonus grandfather Jim Glenn.
Garrett left us way too soon, but he lives on in our hearts as our forever
Valentine.

Garrett was one of my favorite humans ever to walk this earth. He never failed to make me laugh. He would sing "Ambeeeeeee" everywhere we went to make sure I was always smiling. He was insightful, kind, and goofy. He had a great voice and could sing "The Doors" songs like a pro. I have so many memories with Garrett that I could go on forever. One of my favorites is when he let me dress him up like a lady, wig and all, and we took pictures. It was great and I think he just let me do it because he was always up for any adventure. You will forever be missed Garrett, I am just sad I didn't get time with you more in your adult years but our teens and 20s were fulfilled by your presence whenever we were graced with it. Thank you for being an awesome friend, I will miss you.

Garrett was such a nice person. He got along great with his coworkers, and was always willing to help wherever needed. He told a lot of funny stories in the break room.
