Garry L. Henderson, who will be remembered as a good man, passed from this life August 3, 2025, in Anderson, Indiana. Born on April 21, 1943, in Detroit, Michigan, Garry was the beloved son of the late Albert Henderson and Pearl Schnell Henderson Kipp.
Garry's journey through life was shared with his loving wife, Mary Ann Markiewicz, whom he married on Valentine's Day 1998. Mary Ann survives him, and together they blended a beautiful family that includes Garry's children, Dawn (Thom) Fitzgerald of Columbus, Ohio, Garry (Lidia) Henderson of Las Vegas, and Jennifer Henderson of Centerburg, Ohio. His legacy continues through his grandchildren, Brian (Gayle) Calhoun, Michaela Fitzgerald, Dylan, Jonathan, and Bianca Henderson, Jeramiha (Olivia) Urban, and Arianna Urban, as well as his great-grandchildren, Mara, Max, and Colette. Mary Ann's children, Catherine (Mike) Williams of Gibraltar, Michigan, Jennifer (Tony) Hill of Anderson, Krista (Patrick) Farris of Winchester, Virginia, and Jaymi Miller of Tustin, California, along with her grandchildren, Joe (Kayla), Tim and Matt Williams, C.J. and Natalie Hill, Alexander, Sebastian and Langston Farris and Brandon Miller and great-grandson, Dean also hold dear memories of Garry.
Garry served in the United States Army where he was a military policeman; he was honorably discharged June 25, 1963. Garry's professional life was marked by his tenure at General Motors and his role as a project engineer at Cummins Engine Company, from which he retired. After retirement, Garry continued to engage in various pursuits, always seeking to contribute and stay active.
A man of many interests, Garry was especially proud to be a Friend of Bill for 31 years, a commitment that spoke volumes about his character and his dedication to personal growth and support of others. His volunteerism included significant contributions to St. Vincent de Paul, Our Hospice,
Habitat for Humanity, and his work distributing food for Second Harvest Food Bank. These acts of service were a reflection of his generous spirit and his desire to make a difference in the lives of others.
Garry's passion for woodworking was more than a hobby; it was a way he expressed his love and creativity. He crafted toys for children and clocks for family and friends, each piece a token of his affection and skill. His love for his cats was well-known, as they were not just pets but members of his family.
He leaves behind his sisters, Sue Mitchell, Linda (Ron) Crites, Judy (Phil) Knudtson, and Karen (Ken) Miller. Garry was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Leo and Doug Henderson and his sister, Gladys Murphy.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1 p.m. Tuesday, August 12th at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Nashville, Indiana. A time of visitation will be from 11 a.m. until the time of Mass Tuesday at the church. Garry will be laid to rest at the Greenlawn Cemetery Mausoleum in Nashville with full military honors. Memorial contributions may be made to the Animal Protection League in Anderson or the Madison County Humane Society.
A memorial service will be held in Anderson at a later date.
