Garry Dennis Schlyer, 83, of Bellevue, Michigan, passed away on Monday, October 27, 2025 at The Villa At Winston Court in Marshall. He was born on April 20, 1942, in Battle Creek, Michigan, the son of Marion Robert Schlyer Sr. and Thelma Irene (Tobias) Schlyer.
Garry graduated from Bellevue High School with the Class of 1960. He joined the United States Marines in 1961 and was honorably discharged 4 years later in 1965. On April 19, 1969, Garry married the love of his life, Judy St. John and the two spent the remaining 56 1/2 years together until his passing.
In his younger years, Garry was an avid outdoorsman, hunting, fishing, drag racing and riding motorcycles were all passions of his that he loved. Through the years as his family continued to grow, Garry developed a deep love of spending time with his family. His children, grandchildren and great grandchildren were the light of his life and he adored and loved them so much. He will be greatly missed by his family and all those that knew and loved him.
Garry is survived by his wife, Judy Schlyer; son, Mark (Nikki) Schlyer; daughter, Windy (Trevor) Pasman; grandchildren, Danyel Godfrey, Jordan Schlyer-Hewitt, Cole Schlyer, Hunter Pasman, Jacob Pasman, Mikayla Pasman; great grandchildren, Sage, Avery, Paisley, Bentley; 3 step grandchildren and 5 step great grandchildren; sisters, Beverly Holland, Lorraine Jones; and brothers, Marion Schlyer Jr., Rodney Schlyer.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Marion and Thelma Schlyer; sisters, Betty Murrel, Delores Lyko; and brother, Edwin Schlyer.
Visitation will be held at the Baxter Funeral & Cremation Service on Sunday, November 2, 2025 from 12:00 - 2:00 pm and 5:00 - 7:00 pm.
Funeral services will be held at the Baxter Funeral & Cremation Service on Monday, November 3, 2025 starting at 1:00 pm.
Interment will take place at the Floral Lawn Memorial Gardens following the services.
