Rev. Gary Dean Blackwell
June 15, 1949 – November 3, 2025
Rev. Gary Dean Blackwell, loving husband of Sue Nichols Blackwell, of Westminster, South Carolina, entered his eternal home surrounded by the love of his family at Richard M. Campbell Veterans Nursing Home on November 3rd, 2025. Born on June 15, 1949, in Westminster, he was the son of the late Glenn and Lorenia Carter Blackwell.
Gary was a graduate of Mid-America Theological Seminary and faithfully served as pastor to many congregations throughout his ministry, including Snow Creek Baptist Church in Seneca, SC; North View Baptist Church in Memphis, TN; Mt. Pleasant (Blackjack) Baptist Church in Westminster, SC; Refuge Baptist Church in Pendleton, SC; Shady Grove Baptist Church in Pickens, SC; and Shiloh Baptist Church in Seneca, SC. He was a devoted member of Rocky Fork Baptist Church in Westminster, SC.
In addition to his ministry, Gary worked for Sangamo in Walhalla, SC, for 10 years. He was also a proud United States Army Veteran who honorably served his country during the Vietnam War.
Gary is survived by his loving wife, Sue Nichols Blackwell; daughters, Rebekah L. Wardlaw (Scot) of Central, SC, and Rachel B. Jones (Jake) of Holly Hill, SC; brothers, Wade Blackwell, Ted Blackwell (Teri), Dan Blackwell (Rena), Terry Blackwell (Trish), and Billy Blackwell (Hellen); and sister, Elaine Rholetter (Larry). He is also survived by his cherished grandchildren, Cade Wardlaw, Ezra Jones, and Ruth Jones.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Don Blackwell and Hal Blackwell.
A funeral service to honor Rev. Blackwell's life and ministry will be held on Sunday, November 9, 2025, at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church in Westminster, SC, with full Military Honors. The family will receive friends from 2:00 pm until 3:00 pm, prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in Gary's memory may be made to Rocky Fork Baptist Church, 998 Rocky Fork Rd., Westminster, SC 29693, or to Richard M. Campbell Veterans Nursing Home, 4605 Belton Highway, Anderson, SC 29621.
