Seneca, SC – Johnny William Johnson, of Seneca, South Carolina, passed away peacefully on October 30, 2025, at Prisma Health Greenville Memorial Hospital, surrounded by his loving family.
Born December 9, 1963, in Rock Hill, South Carolina, Johnny was the son of the late Billy Hayes Johnson and Loretta Cole Johnson. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy while proudly serving on the AW3 (Navel Air Crewman Petty Officer 3rd Class) USS Nimitz (CVN-68) and went on to build a long and dedicated career with Sandvik where he was commonly known as "JW". Johnny was known by many as a "Pirate" at heart, with a big personality and an even bigger heart. He was known as the neighborhood handyman always willing to lend a helping hand, had a great passion for music and was an avid Clemson Tiger fan. He also enjoyed trivia and had a gift for making others laugh with his knowledge and wit.
He is survived by his loving wife of 30 years, Lori Reese Johnson; his children, Sean Owens (Ashley) of Seneca, Brittany Miele (Matt) of Chicago, IL, Bethany Culp (Joey) of Seneca, and Sarah O'Kelley (Wesley) of Seneca; and his treasured grandchildren, Townes Miele, Connor Miele, Eliza Culp, and Lawson Owens. He is also survived by his brother, Mike Johnson, and sisters, Barbara Phelan (Dan) and Donna Johnson; father and mother in-law, Norman and Louise Scruggs, who dearly loved him as a son; and numerous nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held 11:00 am, Saturday, November 8th, 2025 at Golden Corner Church. Johnny will be laid to rest at a later date at Oconee Memorial Park with full military honors. The family will receive friends following the service at Golden Corner Church.
The family is at their respective homes. Flowers are accepted or memorials may be made in Johnny's memory to Sharing Hope, 2215 Henry Tecklenburg Drive, Charleston, SC 29414. Through his decision to be an organ and tissue donor, Johnny ensured that his legacy of generosity and compassion will live on, touching countless lives and giving hope to families and communities through these selfless gifts.
