With heavy hearts we announce that Gary Aloysius Boedeker departed to eternal life on March 1, 2024. He was 72 years old.
Gary enjoyed many hobbies and had many interests. He grew up caddying at Lochmoor in Grosse Pointe and his love for golf continued throughout his life. He also loved the warm weather and traveled to Mexico for nearly 25 years and more recently at his second home in St. Pete Beach Florida. More than anything he loved his family and anything that involved spending time with them. He also had a second home in Glennie, Michigan where family and friends would come to spend countless fun summer weekends "up north". He loved nothing more than having his friends and family up to enjoy it with him. He was also a very humble and giving man that enjoyed volunteering his time for meals on wheels and was always willing to help anyone in need.
Gary decided almost 40 years ago to leave his day job and start his own business, Boedeker Construction, as a licensed builder. He truly loved to design, build and remodel homes and created a successful business. He had a great passion for his work and always made sure to take care of anyone that worked with him or for him. He was truly a very humble man that loved people and would do anything for anyone. During the economic downturn in the late 2000's he became a weatherization inspector for Macomb County and truly enjoyed his time in the workforce again before returning to building and eventually semi-retiring. He still loved to design and build and had plans for a couple of projects going forward.
Gary was a faithful Catholic and also a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend; he was deeply loved and will be sorely missed by all.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Sharon, his children, Lisa (Stephen) Harrell, Joseph (Stacey) Boedeker, Michael (Lori) Boedeker, and honorary son, Anthony Adams. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Taylor & Jacob Legree, Brendan Harrell, Megan Harrell, great-granddaughter, Charlotte Legree, siblings, Gregory (Cindy) Boedeker, Joseph Boedeker, Mary (John) Martin, and Patricia (Michael) Delfin, siblings-in-law, Harry (Cheryl) Bunner and Patty McGraw, as well as numerous nieces and nephews: Jamie, Matthew, and Paul Boedeker, Brianna Welsh, Kelly Lammers, Derek Boedeker, Brady Boedeker, John Vincent Boedeker, Bryan Boedeker, Jason Martin, Nicholas Martin, Katie Kalousdian, Olivia Kopas, Emma & Elena Delfin, Sandra Landry, Sarah Yopek, Kayla Bunner, and Sherry Ridlon. Gary was also a proud Godfather to Nicholas Martin, Bryan Boedeker, and James Flaton. Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Aloysius and Virginia (Gardella) Boedeker, parents-in-law, Harry and Helen Bunner, brothers, Paul and John Boedeker, nieces and nephew, Shannon Gino, Amy Metter, and Steven Boedeker, and sister-in-law, Barbara Sudds.
Friends may visit at Lynch & Sons Funeral Home, 1368 N. Crooks, Clawson, Friday, March 8th, 3-8pm. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Louis Catholic Church, 24415 Crocker Blvd, Clinton Twp, Saturday, March 9th, 11:30am. Friends may visit beginning at 11am. Gary was my uncle, however, I will be forever grateful for the father-figure role he selflessly embraced throughout my life. He was the true definition of a "family man" with such a deep and unconditional love for his family and friends. Leading by example, Gary taught us all the importance of family and friendship and how to live life to the fullest every step of the way. I will miss him everyday and will always cherish the amazing memories and priceless life lessons he left with us.
