Gary Bogart passed away on December 4, 2024. He was 74 years old.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 10:30 am on Tuesday, December 10th, 2024 at the Stolte Shed (388 S Grand Mesa Dr, Cedaredge, CO 81413) with lunch following.
Gary was born on February 19th, 1950, in Rochester, NY to Dora Elizabeth Steiner and Frank Bogart. He grew up in Orange County, CA when it was still full of orange trees and spent his childhood at nearby Disneyland. He graduated from El Modena High School in 1968 and attended nearby Fullerton College where he studied Oceanography until he was drafted by the US Navy.
After his Navy service he moved to Colorado then Alaska where he spent the next 15 years installing cable and as a bush pilot. In these years he took many people into the wilderness for fishing and hunting expeditions in his Mooney (plane) and fine-tuned his building skills as he built a cabin at the base of Alyeska Ski Area.
Eventually Gary returned to Colorado and met the love of his life, Judy. They shared 21 years of marriage. They lived in Castle Rock, Evergreen, a few years in the RV traveling the country and eventually Delta County in 2019 making Cedaredge their home.
Gary was a jack of all trades whose career ranged from engineering to entrepreneurship—from huge corporations to selling bugs with Judy for an elementary school district science curriculum. When not working, Gary was an avid outdoorsman: hiking, kayaking, fishing, boating, and especially skiing, of which he was proud to have over 55 years of experience. He was the main engineer of their home, designing many household projects to make their lives easier.
Gary is survived by his wife Judy, daughter Samantha Littlefield, and stepchildren Dustin Dyer and Shannon Steiner (Matthew) as well as granddaughter, Emma.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in his name to ASEDD ~ Awareness, Support, and Education about Dementia for Delta County.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of Taylor Funeral Service and Crematory.
