Gary W. Bond, 84, of Pendleton, passed away Sept. 12, 2021 at Ascension St. Vincent Anderson Hospital.
He was born Oct. 2, 1936 in Markleville and was a Pendleton resident for most of his life.
Gary retired from Guide Lamp Division of General Motors as a tool and die maker in 1994 following 38 years of service.
He was a 1954 graduate of Markleville High School where he lettered in basketball, baseball and track and served as class president all four years. Gary was Madison County's leading scorer in High School Basketball in 1954. He attended Hanover College in Hanover, Indiana. Gary was a founding member of the original Arabian Booster Club. He was an avid sports fan and supporter of Pendleton athletics. Gary also enjoyed traveling and mushroom hunting.
Survivors include Thomas "Mike" (Keri) Bond of Pendleton, Kathy (Jeff) Long of Fort Wayne and Max (Trena) Bond of Anderson; grandchildren, Amber (Corey) Lawrence, Mallory (Clint) Shoemaker, Lonnie and Drew Brotherton, Bailey and Grace Hilyard, Tracy Bond, Graeme and Joel Long and Josh and Jacob McCoy; great grandchildren, Abby, Hunter and Kaylee Tuck; brothers-in-law, Charlie (Cindy) McCoy of Greensburg and Len Shanks of Thousand Palms, California; several nieces and several nephews; special friends, Teresa and Bill Shirley and Helen and Chauncey Robbins; and his dog, Paloma.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Judy Ellen (McCoy) Bond who he married on Jan. 13, 1962, she passed away Nov. 16, 2020; daughter and son-in-law, Kelly and Dave Taylor; parents, Myron Andrew and Roberta Vivian (Noland) Bond; brother, Max Duane Bond; and sister, Molly Peckinpaugh.
The family wishes to express their deepest appreciation to the Ascension St. Vincent and Rawlins House staffs for their compassionate care.
Services at 3 p.m., Friday, September 17, 2021 at Wilson St. Pierre Funeral Service and Crematory, Lahm Chapel, Pendleton. Burial will follow in McCray Cemetery, Wilkinson.
Visitation from 1 to 3 p.m., Friday, September 17, 2021 at Lahm Chapel, Pendleton.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions requested to Pendleton Emergency Ambulance, P.O. Box 165, Pendleton, IN 46064.
