Gary Robert Booker

Gary Robert Booker (November 22, 1949 - January 8th, 2025), 75, of Bloomington, Indiana was called home to be with the Lord on January 8th, 2025.
He was loved by all and is survived by his wife of 53 years, Patty (Flake) Booker; sons Gary Scott Booker (Stephanie) & Chad Alan Booker (Katy); grandchildren (who referred to him as "Poppy") Kneessa (Cameron) Harris, Kristina Booker, Makayla Booker, Caylynne Booker, Chad Booker Jr., Hezekiah Booker, Zaytrick, Adele, Liam, & Jemma; great grandchildren Addilyn, Raelyn, & Cooper; siblings Mickey Booker from Florida, Jon Booker, Tom (Jackie) Booker, Jeanne (Bob) Stalcup from Covington, Indiana, Jon Thompson of Ohio, sister-in-law Sandy Simmons & brother-in-law Isaac Browning, and many nephews, nieces, and great nephews & nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents Floyd (Dorothy) Booker & Mary (Tom) Hamilton; sisters Diana Hallford & Darlene Browning; brother Don Thompson; sister-in-laws Mary Feathers, Martha Booker, and brother-in-law Johnny Flake.
Gary was loving and compassionate to all who knew him, but the greatest love of his life was his beautiful wife and family. In his younger years, Gary loved hunting and fishing with his boys, brothers, uncles, & nephews - as well as mushroom hunting. He was a decorated Vietnam Veteran serving alongside his comrade buddies, Bruce Camidge (BJ) from Mississippi & Steve Effinger. He retired after 33 years from Otis Elevator in 2004. He was an ardent sports fan, focusing on his favorite sports & teams: IU basketball and football (Colts). Gary loved playing golf, was a member of Otis Elevator softball team, and bowled in a bowling league for many years. He also had a special place for unique memorabilia. From Happy Meal toys to limited edition items, he was an avid collector.
Visitation will be Thursday, January 16th, 2025 from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Allen Funeral Home (4155 S. Old St. Rd. 37 in Bloomington). The Masonic Lodge from Solsberry will be giving the Masonic Rites at 5pm at the visitation. A funeral service will be held Friday, January 17th, 2025 at 1:00 pm at Pentecostal Faith Assembly (1301 W. 11th St. in Bloomington) with Brother Michael Douglas officiating. Entombment will follow at Valhalla Memory Gardens with Military Honors.
