Gary Paul Bovard, 72, of New York City, passed away on Saturday December 4, 2021 at Mount Sinai- Morningside Hospital in NYC as a result of complications from a chronic health condition.
He was born October 3, 1949 in Meadville, PA, a son of Gerald C. Bovard and Wilda Lois Eppinger Bovard. He had a brother, Richard N. Bovard, and a sister, Becky Lou Bovard.
Gary was a 1967 graduate of Meadville Area Senior High School and graduated from Penn State in 1971 with a B.A. Marketing degree. While living in Meadville he worked several summers at Talon. He also completed post baccalaureate courses at Pace University and The College of Insurance (both in New York City).
After graduating from Penn State he moved to New York City and worked in the insurance industry for approximately forty years. He focused on professional liability insurance for law firms. The largest portion of his career was serving as a First Vice President at Reliance National.
He enjoyed gardening, attending the theatre, and international travel. In his younger years he was an avid runner and in his later years, after becoming less mobile, he learned needlepoint as a hobby. He particularly enjoyed entertaining and giving tours of the Big Apple to family and friends who visited him there. His tours of Manhattan were probably better than those offered by most professional tour guides. He was a long-time member of the Museum of Modern Art (MOMA) in NYC. He was a great admirer of Andy Warhol and had an impressive collection of Warhol related books and prints.
He normally returned to Meadville to visit family every Memorial Day weekend; and every five years he consistently attended his MASH high school class reunions. He also greatly enjoyed periodic Eppinger cousins' family reunions.
He is survived by niece, Debrah Bovard Carl and her husband Rob; and nephew Richard L. Bovard and his wife Shelia; and their two sons, Ryan (wife- Ashley) and Patrick (wife- Katherine); all in North Carolina. He is also survived by several cousins primarily in Pennsylvania.
Along with his mother and father, he was preceded in death by his brother, Richard, and sister, Becky Lou.
A private family service will be held in Spring 2022. The family has been assisted by the International Funeral and Cremation Services of New York and the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home of Meadville, PA. Memories and condolences may be shared at www.waidfuneralhome.net
