Gary Wayne Buchanan, 73, of Parker Road, Hillsboro, Kentucky departed this life on Sunday, November 26, 2023 at the Veteran Affairs Medical Center in Lexington, Kentucky.
He was born September 7, 1950 in Pittsfield, Illinois to the late Harold Buchanan and Juanita Garrett Buchanan.
Gary proudly served his county in the United States Army. He enjoyed working in the garden, taking care of his lawn, woodworking and tinkering with this and that. He was a Master Electrician and an ASI Certified Mechanic.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one daughter, Tammy Miller.
Survivors include his wife Judy Williams Buchanan; one daughter, Tina Schmidt of Lexington, Kentucky; one son, Tommy Wayne Buchanan of Morehead, one brother, Elbie (Mary Lou) Buchanan of Pittsfield, Illinois; three sisters, Edith Gant, Haroldine (Snookie) Prater both of Pittsfield, Illinois and Barbara (Bill) Goewey of Pleasant Hill, Illinois; one son in law, Mark Miller of Hillsboro; nine grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
Services will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Thursday, November 30, 2023 in the chapel of the Michael R. Gray Funeral Home in Flemingsburg with Brother Herbie Stallard officiating.
Military rites will be conducted by the W. N. Fant American Legion Post No. 5 and the Franklin Sousley V.F.W. Post No. 1834.
Visitation is after 12 noon until the hour of service at the funeral home.
To honor Gary's wishes he will be cremated following the service.
Casket bearers will be Tommy Buchanan, Kody Miller, Clayton Miller, Zach Hunt, Conner Schmidt, Jeff Taylor, and Kolby Buchanan.
All arrangements for Gary Wayne Buchanan and family are under the care and direction of the Michael R. Gray Funeral Home, 405 South Main Cross Street, Flemingsburg, Kentucky 41041.
