Gary L. Burky, 76, of New Philadelphia went Home to be with the Lord on Saturday, April 15, 2023 at Park Village Health Care in Dover following a period of declining health.
Born in Dover on April 20, 1946, he was the son of the late Earl and Bernice (Mutti) Burky. Gary married the former Wanda Carruthers on May 12, 1976.
He owned and operated the Burky Dairy Farm near Sugarcreek and enjoyed milking Holstein cattle and growing crops on his farm land. Gary was a long-time member of the Ragersville Zion United Church of Christ, was a 1964 Garaway High School graduate, a 1968 graduate of The Ohio State University and joined the U.S. Army Reserves in 1969. He enjoyed bowling but mostly spending time with his family.
Gary is survived by his wife Wanda; son Gary Chad Burky of New Philadelphia; stepdaughters Diane (friend Tony Pfenning) Carper of Dover, Julie (David) Greenwood of Stone Creek; grandchildren Clayton Burky, Chloe' Carper, Will Carper, Bryan Greenwood, Cory (Morgan) Greenwood; great grandchildren Ellis Greenwood, Brooks Greenwood; sister Evelyn Ruehr of California; brothers Wayne (Ruth) Burky of New Philadelphia, Dean (Marcia) Burky of Bolivar, Dan (Marsha) Burky of Sugarcreek; and seven nieces and nephews Katie and Manny Weaver, Christine and Todd Kendle, Mike (Ann) Burky, Scott Burky, Maresa Burky, Denise (Dave) Kaub, and Brent (Jennifer) Ruehr.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a brother-in-law Tom Ruehr.
Services for Gary will be held on Friday, April 21, 2023 at the Zion United Church of Christ in Ragersville at 12:00 noon with Pastor LuAnn Youngman officiating. Friends may call at the church one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow in Ragersville Cemetery.
Smith-Varns Funeral Home in Sugarcreek is assisting the family with arrangements.
The family would like to thank Park Village and Crossroads Hospice for their excellent care of Gary.
