Gary Dampier Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Shadel's Colonial Chapel - Lebanon on Aug. 16, 2022.
GARY RUE DAMPIER, son of Troy Dampier Sr. and Mary Lissie (Vaughn) Dampier, was born June 28, 1951, in Lebanon, Missouri and left the troubles of this world behind August 15, 2022, also in Lebanon, Missouri, at the age of seventy-one years.
Gary worked hard to provide for his family. He was employed with T.H. Rogers Lumber Company for over twenty years, prior to his retirement, he was a yard foreman. Those who worked with him respected his strong work ethic. According to his family, after his retirement, he "couldn't sit still." He began working part time at O'Reilly Auto Parts, where he remained until his health no longer allowed.
Gary was very particular about his yard. He enjoyed mowing and tending to his garden. He raised chickens for a period of time and mastered the "rooster call," which explains one of his two nicknames, "Rooster." Other friends also referred to him as "Chubs."
Gary never met a stranger. He enjoyed making others laugh and was incredibly witty. He was straight forward and didn't appreciate people sugar coating things. He loved honest people and was a good judge of character. He remembered important dates, especially anniversaries and birthdays. He always made others feel important. He enjoyed watching westerns, specifically "Gunsmoke' and "Bonanza" and could continuously watch re-runs. He enjoyed laughter and memories shared with his grandchildren and loved his family unconditionally.
Gary is survived by two daughters, Brandy Dampier and her fiancée Justin Rogers of Lebanon, MO and Brittany Vaughn and her husband Tanner of Conway, MO; five grandchildren, Corey Walsh, Cailyn Rogers, Rhett, Hattie and Creek Vaughn; four sisters, Wilma Ivey, Opal Green and Kay Zeigenbein, all of Lebanon, MO and Linda Newkirk and her husband Larry of Alabama; one brother, Joe Dampier and his wife Joyce, also of Lebanon, MO; the mother of his children, Mindy Goodwin of Lebanon, MO; several nieces, nephews, cousins; other relatives and countless friends.
Those preceding him in death include his parents; one son, Troy; siblings, Charles, Bill, Junior, L.D., Roy Dampier and Hazel England; two brothers-in-law, Wib Ivey and Joe Green.
Gary was the kind of person you could meet once and remember forever. He will be forever missed by all who knew and loved him.
In lieu of flowers, Gary's family would like memorials made in his memory to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Donations can be left at or mailed to Shadel's Colonial Chapel, P.O. Box 948 or 1001 N. Lynn, Lebanon, MO 65536.
