A funeral Mass of Christian burial for Gary Eugene Dankesreiter, 59, of Lindsay, is set for Thursday, October 23, 2025 at 10:00am at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Lindsay, TX. Burial will follow at St. Peter’s Cemetery under the direction of Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home. A rosary with visitation will be held at Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home, Gainesville, on Wednesday, October 22, 2025 at 6:00pm.
Gary was born on August 1, 1966 in Dallas, TX, the son of William and Henrietta Fuhrmann Dankesreiter. He passed away on October 12, 2025 in Kremmling, Colorado.
Gary was raised in Lindsay, TX and spent his entire school years at Lindsay, graduating in 1984. He was an avid sports player earning state recognition and enjoyed hunting and fishing his entire life. After high school he attended the University of North Texas where he played football.
Gary worked in the construction business for many years, had a roofing business for some time, and was co-owner of Gainesville Door.
Gary had a passion for cooking which led to entering contests for ribs, chili, and any other thing that sounded good to make. Sometimes he even won, but that is not what it was about. It was about spending time with his friends, enjoying some beverages, and earning bragging rights that he would not let his friends forget.
Most people knew Gary as “a big ol’ teddy bear”. He was always trying to help the underdog, the struggler, and those down on their luck. That was just who he was. In life people are lucky to have a couple best friends, but Gary was that best friend to many. Anyone could call on him for help and he was there. Those who knew him well knew he was a big man, but had a bigger heart for those in need.
Gary is preceded in death by his grandparents Rosa and Matt Orth, Frank and Francis Dankesreiter, his parents Bill and Henrietta Dankesreiter, and numerous aunts and uncles.
He is survived by his sister, Julie Johnston and her husband Tom, nephews Jerad Rauschuber and his wife Amber, Jase Rauschuber and his wife Kara, Jacob Johnston and his wife Victoria, and nieces Jamie Henry and her husband Jason, and Ari Johnston. He had 13 great nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind his faithful companion Jack and a large tribe of friends that will forever feel a piece of their group is missing.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to St. Peter's Catholic Church or Lindsay Youth Supporters.
