Gary L. Dennis, 85, of Marietta passed away at 6:16 am on Friday, July 26, 2024 at Marietta Memorial Hospital. He was born on December 12, 1938, in Newport Township to a son of the late S. Okey and M. Garnet Dennis.
Gary attended Newport Schools for years and graduated from Marietta City Schools in 1956 and later attended Ohio University. He enlisted in the U. S. Army in December, 1956 and served in the Army in the 82nd Airborne as a Paratrooper and was a Helicopter Crew Chief, Spec. 5. He was stationed at Ft. Bragg, NC. After discharge he was employed at several business including Marietta Metals, Marietta Concrete, Kardex, Forma Scientific and was President of Marietta Structures and was also a flight instructor for RamBar. His hobby was car restoration and showing his 55 red and white Buick at various car shows. In retirement, he worked part-time at McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home. Gary was an active member of Christ United Methodist Church.
On April 29, 1961, he married Norma Jean Ziegler at the Amesville Methodist Church. She survives with their children, Brant (Stacy) Dennis and Jane Ann (Rodney) Zide; grandchildren: Ryan (Morgan) Zide, Zachery Zide and Joseph Dennis and great granddaughter Ayla Zide.
Preceding him in death are his parents, brothers, Wilford and Howard Dennis and sisters, Rosamond Hart and Ruth Smith.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday (July 31) at 11:00 am at McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home with burial following in Amesville Cemetery. Family will greet friends at the funeral home on Tuesday from 2-4 and 6-8 and one hour before the service on Wednesday. Messages of sympathy may be sent at www.Lankfordfh.com.
