Mr. Gary S. Dowdy, age 82 of Powder Springs, Georgia, passed away Sunday, October 26, 2025. He was born July 24, 1943 in Atlanta, Georgia, son of the late Eloise Jones Dowdy.
Gary was a member of Macland Baptist Church and being a man of faith, he loved reading his Bible. He was a precious husband, father, and papa, who loved his Savior Jesus Christ. He was a devoted family man who spent many years working as a supervisor at the Atlanta Journal Constitution, retiring with 25+ years. After retirement, he opened a very successful car stereo shop that he owned for many years. He was a hard worker, whether on his job or working in his yard and enjoyed going to the mountains and the beach, and eating seafood.
In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Sheila Waldrop Embrey.
He is survived by his wife of almost 53 years, Gayle Smith Dowdy, to whom he was married November 11, 1972; two daughters, Michele Waldrop and Christie Dowdy Keith (Lanny); seven grandchildren, Eric Embrey, Tyler (Brittany) Embrey, Ashley (Justin) Bresnock, Austin (Alli) Bresnock, Chandler Keith, Marisa Keith and Ethan Keith; four great-grandchildren, Reese Embrey, Grayson Embrey, Mason Bresnock and Madelyn Bresnock; and two nephews, Dennis (Celeste) Jones and Gary (Ginger) Jones.
The family will receive friends at Clark Funeral Home on Thursday, October 30, 2025, from 12 noon until 2:00pm. A funeral service will follow at 2:00pm in the Sam Clark Chapel with Rev. Don Rackley officiating. A eulogy will be given by his granddaughter, Ashley Bresnock. Interment service will follow in the Powder Springs Memorial Cemetery with his grandchildren serving as pallbearers.
