Gary L. Edelson

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Gary L. Edelson, who died peacefully on Sunday, May 11, 2025, after a long illness, with family at his side. The long-time Ocean Township resident was 64.
A loving father, devoted son and loyal brother, Gary was a consummate storyteller with an affection for history and genealogy, whose talent in the kitchen became apparent in recent years. Gary's devotion to his family helped create incredible memories over the years, while his sarcastic wit and dogged determination helped define him.
A graduate of Christian Brothers Academy in Lincroft, Gary was a past president of the CBA Alumni Association.
He graduated from Bryant University in 1982 with a degree in business. After working in New York City for several years as a programmer for major banks he went back to school, graduating from New York Law School in 1988, embarking on a decades-long career in private practice.
Gary was an Eagle Scout in Troop 70 in Oakhurst. Also Eagle Scouts were his twin boys, Samuel, of Clifton, and Benjamin, of Providence, Rhode Island, whom he was intensely proud of and loved dearly.
He served as the director of the Township of Ocean Historical Museum, playing a role in the museum's growth over the last 15 years.
In addition to his two sons, Gary is survived by his father, Paul; his brothers Stephen, Mark and Gregory, and his sister, Amy; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews, who he always enjoyed spending time with.
He is predeceased by his mother, Marjorie, his biggest supporter.
A communicant St. Mary of the Assumption Roman Catholic Church in Deal, Gary also volunteered at the church.
Although Gary is gone, he will live forever in our hearts.
Visitation will be on Thursday, May 15 at Fiore-Buckley Funeral Home, 236 Monmouth Road in Oakhurst, Ocean Township, from 4-8 p.m. Funeral Mass will be held at St. Mary's Church at 10 a.m. Friday, May 16.
