A private family memorial will be held at a later date.
Gary Bryan Fishburn was born in Laramie, Wyoming on June 3, 1944 to the late Cecil J. Fishburn and Nelle Allison Gibson Fishburn, and proudly served our country in the U.S. Marine Corp during the Vietnam Era. Gary's passion was flying. He worked as a manager and corporate aviation pilot for over 48 years, and loved working with new clients and mentoring younger pilots. He took great pride in the fact that he was trained in aerobatics by Marion Cole. Mr. Fishburn was an excellent cook, as was his entire family; they were taught to cook by his mother, who worked as a chef for two large hotels in Colorado. Gary had a special place in his heart for Rocky Mountain National Park and Estes Park, Colorado, where he visited and spent much of his time trout fishing. He also enjoyed golfing, but what he cherished most was time spent with his family. He will be deeply missed.
Mr. Fishburn is survived by his loving wife of 23 years, Carol Gerger Fishburn of New Iberia; sons, David Bryan Fishburn (Jennifer) of Port Allen, LA, and Gary Wayne Fishburn (Angie) of Indianapolis, IN; two brothers, Dennis Fishburn (Cheryl) of Longmont, CO, and Michael A. Fishburn of Delray Beach, FL; seven grandchildren, Joseph Fishburn, William Fishburn, Samuel Fishburn, Laurel Fishburn, Heather Fishburn, Danielle Fishburn, Zack Fishburn; and his best fur buddy, JJ.
In addition to his parents, Gary was preceded in death by four siblings, Marilyn Gonzales, Thomas Tipton, Beth Zemek, and Edythe Tipton.
The family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation to Dr. Falterman; Dr. Leleux; Dr. Kleiman in Houston; and the entire staff of Lafayette Heart Hospital and Hope Hospice for extraordinary care and compassion.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Assn.
