Gary L. Flynn, 81, of Mount Vernon, OH, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on May 2, 1944, in Baltimore, MD to Howard and Virginia Flynn.
Gary grew up with a strong sense of curiosity and a desire to understand the world around him-traits that stayed with him throughout his life. After completing his schooling, he enlisted in the United States Air Force, serving honorably from 1962 to 1966. His time in the service shaped him in many ways, teaching him discipline, resilience, and a deep appreciation for the value of service.
In 1967, Gary married his beloved wife, Linda, beginning a partnership rooted in love, dedication, and mutual respect. Together they shared nearly six decades of marriage, building a home filled with warmth, laughter, and adventure. Their love for travel took them across the country, and they proudly achieved their goal of visiting all 50 states. Whether exploring mountains, forests, or quiet scenic towns, Gary cherished every moment spent discovering new places with Linda by his side.
Gary had many passions throughout his life. He was an enthusiastic amateur radio operator, known by his call sign KE8FD, and he earned numerous awards for his skill and dedication to the craft. The radio community brought him great joy, friendship, and a sense of connection that he valued deeply.
He also loved the simple pleasures of life-working on jigsaw puzzles, spending quality time outdoors, and taking memorable trips with his children. What mattered most to Gary was creating moments of togetherness. Family was always at the center of his world, and he never missed an opportunity to support, encourage, or simply enjoy the company of those he loved.
Gary is survived by his children, Mark (Amanda) Flynn and Michael (Kristen) Flynn; grandchildren, Connor McKenzie and TJ McKenzie; and his brother, Donald (Jean) Flynn and sister-in-law Edie Carton. He is also survived by niece Michele, and nephews Greg, Matt, Steve, and Tommy.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
The family will be having a private celebration of life at a later date. Gary wants everyone to remember the good times.
