Jackson "Jack" Shelton, age 72 of Johnsville passed away Saturday, November 15, 2025 in his home surrounded by his loved ones.
He was born March 7, 1953 in Richland, Virginia, the son of Otis Lee and Dorothy Lee (Ball) Shelton, and grew up in the hills of Virginia surrounded by the love, noise, and companionship of more than a dozen siblings and half-siblings. Those early mountain roots shaped Jack into a humble, hardworking, and steady-hearted man.
On May 11, 1974, Jack married the love of his life, Lorretta Kay Wilt, and together they built a life marked by devotion, perseverance, and simple joys. Jack worked as a loader for Mohican Sand and Gravel before spending many dedicated years with the Northmor School District as a custodian, retiring in 2010. He took great pride in his work and in doing every task with care.
A man of faith, Jack was a member of Palmyra Church of Christ. Outside of work, he found his greatest happiness in the outdoors. He loved fishing, tending to his property, and could often be found pulling weeds just to keep everything looking just the way he liked it. Jack was also a proud Michigan football fan-win or lose, he stayed loyal to his team.
For 9 years, Jack made his home at Lake Maria, a place he treasured deeply. He loved the community there and was well-known for cruising around on his golf cart, tinkering on his Jeep, and enjoying the peacefulness of lake life. Jack also had a lifelong fascination with the color orange-a signature trait reflected in every truck he ever owned.
Though quiet in spirit, Jack's presence was felt deeply by those who knew him. He was kind, gentle, and loving until the very end. His memory will be cherished by all who were fortunate enough to share in his life and his stories.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years Lorretta Shelton, two sons Ralph Shelton of Mansfield and Gary (Megan) Shelton of Columbus; grandchildren Cheyenne Shelton, Cory (Alexis) Shelton, Tosha (Josh) Schoonover, Kazmine (Matthew) Smith, Kearia (Michael) Meade, Jakob Shelton, Zack (Ashley) De Pascale, special nephew Glenn Eugene Bunnell and his mother Kayleigh Wilt, an honorary granddaughter Savannah Bishop; great grandchildren Michael, Grayson, Raelynn, Lilly, Kinsley, Mia, Madilynn, Westin, Bohdi, Ellie, Isabella, Lane, Nash and Ariya expected in May; siblings Dave Shelton, Lawrence Shelton, Lee Shelton, Rose Shelton and Rita Smith.
In addition to his parents and grandparents, he was preceded in death by his step mother Dixie Lee Shelton, who came into his life when he was four years old and played a major role in shaping the man he became, a grandson Cody Shelton, great granddaughter Aria, and many siblings and ½ siblings.
Friends may call Monday, November 24, 2025 from 4-7 pm in the Lexington Avenue Snyder Funeral Home where the funeral service will be held Tuesday at 11 am. Pastor Troy Northrup will officiate and burial will follow in North Fork Cemetery.
Contributions may be made to the family for a memorial tribute for Jackson, make checks payable to Loretta Shelton.
