Rodney Hubbard Obituary
Published by Legacy on Nov. 17, 2025.
Rodney Dean Hubbard, 67, of Delaware, Ohio received his Heavenly reward after living a life truly devoted to faith, family, and service. He passed away peacefully at Kobacker House in Columbus, Ohio on Monday, November 10, 2025.
Born in Xenia, Ohio, on September 17, 1958, Rodney was the son of the late Dewayne Hubbard Sr. and Mildred (Porter) Hubbard. After graduating from Xenia High School in 1977, he moved to Tennessee and enjoyed his short time there until he moved to Delaware, Ohio to be close to his brother, Dewayne Jr.
For over 25 years, Rodney served others through his work at OhioHealth, primarily at Grady Memorial Hospital in Delaware and Dublin Methodist Hospital. In 2010, his dedication, compassion, and professionalism earned him the prestigious Prism Award for exceptional patient care and he was rewarded again in 2019 at OhioHealth's Day of Shopping for having achieved over two decades of service.
In 1994, Rodney married the former Kelley Jean Herrell-his beloved wife, best friend, and steadfast partner in all of life's adventures. They always proudly called each other "my lovely wife" and "my best husband" and together they shared countless travels, concerts, movies, laughs, and memories.
A man of deep faith, Rodney was a member of St. John AME Church, but he most recently attended Zion AME Church, where his spiritual journey truly flourished. He loved the Lord and was known for saying, "God is good all the time, and all the time God is good!"- a phrase that captured both his outlook and his heart. Rodney was always inclusive and he effectively ministered to others through his kindness, encouragement, and care for "the least of these", leaving any judgment of others to God.
Rodney was also a lifelong sports fan and an enthusiastic supporter of The Ohio State Buckeyes, the Miami Dolphins, and the Cleveland Browns. He enjoyed traveling, planning road trips and "Ohio day adventures" with Kelley, and bringing joy to every gathering with his deep singing voice and infectious energy. Ever the party planner, he loved keeping the fun going and making sure that no party ended too soon. Known for his easy-going spirit, bright smile, and genuine love for people, Rodney never met a stranger. He made EVERYONE feel welcome, seen, and cared for. Those who knew him best will remember his faithfulness, his laughter, and the warmth he brought into every room. We are all better for having known Rodney.
Left to cherish his memory are his devoted wife, Kelley; his brother, Dewayne Hubbard Jr.; his extended family including Kelley's sisters, Shelley Bohanna, Lesley Herrell, and Sherri Herrell; aunts, Patricia "Howdy" Hughes and Phyliss Burke; many nephews and nieces including Johnathan Herrell, Amerie Stanley, Derrick Hubbard, Janet Smith, Keena Ware, Dionne Hubbard, Daria Blanton, and Tyson, Harper, and Marley Herrell; many cousins including Rhea Williams, Jerry Bridges, Stevie Hoskins, Dwayne Sims, Scott Burke, and Lauren Bennett; extraordinary caregivers and helpers to both Rodney and Kelley including Jeff Flowers, Steve Carpenter, Franie Ahmad, Alison Franklin, Lisa McGowan, Carolyn Kirtley-Boston, Laurel Shortridge, Cierra Wood, Jerome Bohanna, and Robert and Zenie Matthews;many other loved ones and friends.
In addition to his parents, Rodney was preceded in death by his sister, Sheila McGee; his mother-in-law, Cheri Herrell; nieces, Britton Herrell-Stanley and Sara Bohanna-Williams; and nephew, Jermaine Smith.
On Saturday, November 15, 2025, Rodney was laid to rest at Oak Grove Cemetery in Delaware, Ohio. Arrangements were entrusted to Snyder Funeral Homes, Delaware Chapel.
