Phyllis Elaine Mahaffey

Phyllis Elaine Mahaffey, age 81, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, November 14, 2025.
She was born January 22, 1944 in Marion, Ohio to the late Benard Keaton and Alice L. (Wilson) Smith.
Phyllis graduated from Marion Harding High School in 1962 and went on to earn her nursing degree from Mount Carmel College of Nursing in 1966, becoming a Registered Nurse.
On August 7, 1966, she married her high school sweetheart and the love of her life, Victor W. Mahaffey. Their 59 years together were filled with unwavering love, partnership, and cherished memories.
Phyllis began her nursing career as an office nurse for Dr. Gray, faithfully serving until his retirement. She later worked for Dr. Mark Piacentini for many years before continuing her calling in hospice nursing at Marion General Hospital. She also shared her gifts in patient care at Urgent Care and at Stofcheck. Phyllis dedicated her life to caring for others, and after a long and compassionate career, she retired in 1999.
Phyllis was a devoted member of Trinity Baptist Church, where she participated in the Martha Circle and Missionary Circles. She also shared her time and talents with the YMCA, volunteering for many years to teach swimming lessons to children.
In her spare time, Phyllis enjoyed reading, completing crossword puzzles, preparing her well-loved chicken parmesan and banana pudding, and traveling with her family when her children were young.
Phyllis will be lovingly remembered by her husband, Victor Mahaffey of Marion, OH; her children, Jason W. Mahaffey of Mebane, NC, and Nancy J. Greer of Marion, OH; her grandchildren, Aubrey (Cory) Mahaffey, Dolan Greer, Taylor Wagoner, and Halle Mahaffey; and her great-grandsons, Colson Mahaffey, Sawyer Mahaffey, Bryson Lassiter, and Tatum Harris.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her stepfather Robert Smith, and her sister Linda Beck.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, November 19, 2025 from 1 – 3 pm at Trinity Baptist Church, 220 S, Main St, Marion, Ohio.
Funeral service will begin at 3 pm at the church with Pastor Daniel McCoy officiating. Dinner will follow at the church for friends and family.
Burial will take place at Grand Prairie Cemetery at a later date.
