Gary John Frontier
A Resident of Schaumburg for 64 years
Visitation for Gary John Frontier, 67, will be on Tuesday, June 25, 2024, from 10:00am – 12:00pm, with a Celebration of Life Service starting at 12:00 noon at Michaels Funeral Home and Cremation Care, 800 S. Roselle Road, Schaumburg.
Born March 7, 1957, in Chicago to the late John and Carol (Oftedahl) Frontier, Gary passed away June 9, 2024, in Schaumburg.
Gary was born in Chicago and lived there with his parents until they moved to Schaumburg in 1960. He attended grammar school in Schaumburg and graduated from Schaumburg High School in 1975. He and his classmates were the first to graduate after attending the new high school for all four years. Gary was an athlete his entire young life playing baseball, football, hockey, track, and golf. Gary was also the proud founder of Fergie's Army at Schaumburg High School, named after the football coach at the time, Coach Bob Ferguson. Gary obtained army helmets from an Army surplus store and painted them with the school logo for all the members to wear while cheering on their football team. He was also elected by his senior class to be the speaker for their graduation. Following high school, Gary proudly attended Northern Illinois University, where he made many lifelong friends, and graduated in 1979 with a Bachelor of Arts degree. Among Gary's many loves, he was a proud Chicago sports fan. Gary went on to pursue his passion for art and became the Art Director for the Schaumburg Park District shortly after graduating college. Gary continued to pursue his love of art by forming his own business and providing many beautiful works of art to many families, businesses, friends and loved ones during this time.
Gary loved all his family and friends deeply. He will be fondly remembered for his kindness, his eternal optimism, his passion and love for all things, his wonderful sense of humor, and his talent and gift of art. We lost Gary too soon, and unexpectedly. Gary's friends were many and far-reaching and his love for all family and friends was boundless. He will remain in the hearts of his family and friends and will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
Loving brother to Jane (Kevin) Twomey; beloved uncle and godfather to Mackenzie Twomey (fiancé Brian Hackett), loving cousin to Michael Frontier (the late Anne), the late Robert Frontier; Jim Frontier (Kathi); Monica Keane (Michael Recruciak); Tim Keane (Mary); Phil Frontier (the late Judy); the late Pat Maddox (David); Mary Shaw; Jim Weik (Roxi); the late Larry Weik and Robert Weik; Brooke Oftedahl and Clint Oftedahl.

I knew Gary to be a pretty effervescent guy when we were attending Schaumburg High School. I graduated in 1973. Gary was a good friend of my brother Mike, a 1974 graduate. We had some good times in the art classes. I mean, who didn't like Gary? Yep, he's one of the irreplaceable ones. RIP, Gary. - Joe Chiovari

I framed many of Gary´s art pieces at The Great Frame Up...he was a very talented artist!
May the love of friends and family carry you through your grief.

Shocking, sad news about Gary. We lived on the same floor in the University Plaza at NIU. I remember him as a talented artist who usually dressed in some sort of military type cargo pants, with a matching bandanna and combat boots, and who appeared to have consumed way too much caffeine. He was cool, intense, and very, very funny. In short, an unforgettable character.
My condolences to his family. Ira Helfgot, NIU 1978
