Gary Dale Gillespie, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and proud veteran, passed away suddenly from a heart attack on June 4, 2025, at the age of 80. Gary's wishes were to be cremated. A private service will be held at the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Higginsville, Missouri.
Born on December 4, 1944, Gary grew up with a strong work ethic and willingness to serve. He served honorably in the United States Air Force and carried that same spirit of service into every role he embraced: member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, devoted husband, loving father and "Papa", loyal friend.
Gary will be remembered for his warmth, wit, and unwavering support of those he loved and even for his occasional stubbornness. He had a passion for dance and taekwondo which he shared and enjoyed with his wife and children.
He is survived by his loving wife of over 30 years, Jill Gillespie; his children: Susan Gillespie (Cisco), Joseph Jeppson (Lauren), Linda Abegg (Mike), and Lisa Christensen (Dan); and his 11 grandchildren: Angelina, Joseph, Madeline, Jack, Ethan, Benton, Asher, James, Ruth, Claire, and Rosemary. He is also survived by his brother, Gary Wayne Gillespie (Jan).
Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Bea Gillespie.
He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered for his steadfast devotion to his family, his quiet strength, and the love he shared so generously throughout his life.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Vansant-Mills Funeral Home in Clinton, Missouri.
