Mr. Gary Lynn Green, age 74 passed away Friday, May 31, 2024, at Ochsner LSU Health Shreveport. He was a beloved brother, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend who will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Gary was born on October 5, 1949 in Alexandria, Louisiana to the late Jesse Wayne Green and Margie Chandler Green and spent his formative years in Winnfield, Louisiana. He went on to attend Winnfield High school where he was best known for his excellence in football, baseball, and track. He then attended the University of Louisiana at Monroe, where he not only received his degree in construction management but also aided in the foundation of Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity, Eta Omicron Chapter. Gary started his career as a health and safety manager and retired as a well-respected environmental consultant with Jones Environmental in Shreveport, Louisiana. Throughout his career he was known for his hard work, dedication and expertise in his field.
But more than anything Gary was a devoted father and raised his two sons, Jason and Christopher, in Shreveport, Louisiana. He loved spending time with his boys coaching them in their many sports, teaching them to enjoy the great outdoors, exposing them to his musical interests while playing guitar for them, taking them to see the LSU Tigers play in Death Valley, all while ensuring they focused on their school work through their graduate studies.
Gary retired in Toledo Bend and his place of residence was near Zwolle, Louisiana. Some of his happiest times were spent traversing its waterways, appreciating its natural beauty, and fishing to his heart's content. You could also find him painting, creating art pieces and dabbling in photography. He was proud to share his passion for bass fishing and LSU sports and his legacy will live on in his sons and grandchildren.
Gary is survived by his son, Jason A. Green (Kimberly) of Lucas, Tx.; his son, Christopher L. Green (Mary) of Lafayette, La.; his sister, Carolyn G. Cole of Arkadelphia, Ar.; five grandchildren, Addyson Green, Jacob Green, Gill Green, Merritt Green, and Rory Green, as well as his nephew Craig Cole (Gena) and niece Courtney Cole; and two great nieces, Chandler Taylor and Haedyn Taylor.
Services will be held on Friday, June 7, 2024 at Southern Funeral Home in Winnfield, Louisiana. Visitation will be observed from 11:00am-2:00pm followed by the funeral service beginning at 2:00pm.
