Obituary published on Legacy.com by Southern Funeral Home - Winnfield on Feb. 20, 2025.
Reverend Gerald Glen Fogger, 87, of
Winnfield, Louisiana, peacefully entered the presence of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Wednesday, February 19, 2025, at his home. He was born on November 5, 1937, in Winn Parish to Lillie Mae Robinson Fogger and Thomas Iuria Fogger.
As a senior in high school, Glen started working for the Winn Parish Enterprise as a clean-up boy. After graduating from Winnfield High School in 1955, he began working in the back shop running the presses. Glen worked for The Enterprise for ten years. After graduating, he also joined the Army National Guard.
In 1966, Glen began his forty-year-long career with the United States Postal Service. Starting as a mail carrier at the Winnfield Post Office, Glen walked his route every day. He enjoyed stopping by his mother's house, where warm, fresh biscuits awaited him. At one point, Glen had a faithful walking companion in a neighborhood dog. The part-time pet met him halfway on his route and followed him all the way back to the post office, where Glen would put the dog in his truck and drop him off on his way home. After thirty years, he became the Postmaster at the Dodson Post Office, where he served another ten years. Glen proudly retired from a fulfilling career on December 1, 2006. He also held a residential real estate license. Glen owned and operated Tiger County Real Estate for many years.
Glen was ordained on June 6, 1964, as an Assembly of God minister. He served as pastor of several different congregations through the years, including Joyce Assembly of God, Montgomery Assembly of God, Olla Assembly of God, and Central Assembly of God in Winnfield. In his earlier ministry years, he often assisted with the Youth Ministry. When not pastoring, Glen served as a Sunday School Teacher and Deacon.
On February 14, 1964, at Linwood Assembly of God Church in Shreveport, Louisiana, Glen married the love of his life, Marilyn Whitlow. Through the years, they faithfully served in ministry together. They were often seen taking care of family and friends. They were blessed with two daughters, Darla and Glenda. Glen was a loving and active father in his girls' lives. He attended many band concerts, piano recitals, and church events the girls were involved in. He was a member of the Jaycees and a former president of the Winnfield Senior High School Band Boosters.
In June of 1992, Glen began a new adventure as a grandfather, lovingly known as PawPaw. His grandchildren remember him as a strong, generous, and ever-faithful presence in their lives. He always ensured that kolaches, donuts, and Grantadams were on the menu when they came to visit. His grandchildren always felt safe, at home, loved, and taken care of. Through every life event, he always did his best to be there and show support. But most importantly, he always told them he loved them.
Known as a quiet man by nature, Glen was an ever-present figure in many people's lives. He had a servant's heart and was willing and able to help anyone in need. He was a true fan of Winnfield Tiger football, LSU football, and Houston Astros baseball. Glen enjoyed feeding and watching his squirrels and birds. He also appreciated time spent working outdoors, clearing the land, and burning brush. After retirement, his favorite pastimes were working puzzles and spending time reading his Bible. Glen will be remembered as a hardworking man who loved the Lord and his family more than anything else on this earth.
Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife of sixty-one years, Marilyn Joye Whitlow Fogger; daughters, Darla Leonard and her husband, Paul, of Sherwood, Arkansas, and Glenda Bullock and her husband, Chuck, of Magnolia, Texas; grandchildren, Hollie Bullock; Emilie Loy and her husband, Reverend Tyler; Michael Bullock and his wife, Jael; Ashlie Race and her husband, Dillon; step-grandchildren, Megan Scheeler and her husband, Shawn; Dr. Erin Musgrave and her husband, Michael; Colton Leonard and his wife, Janna; and Caitlin Leonard; great-grandchildren, Evie and Maverick Loy, and Sydnie Race; step-great-grandchildren, Claire Scheeler, and Olivia and Amelia Musgrave; nephews, Glen Atley Fogger and his wife, Bonnie; Timothy Fogger and his wife, Gwen; and Mark Fogger and his wife, Tammy; nieces, Rebecca Crochet and her husband, Reverend Audie; and Cherie Jones and her husband, Reverend Doyle; and numerous extended family and friends through the years.
